Nebraska is hoping to go on a run at this week’s Big Ten tournament and play its way into the NCAA Tournament. The Cornhuskers got off to a heck of a start on Wednesday.
Designated hitter Charlie Fischer blasted a three-run homer to left field to give Nebraska a 3-0 first-inning lead over Rutgers.
Nebraska did all of its damage in the opening inning with two outs as Max Anderson hit an infield single and Casey Burnham walked, before Fischer blasted a three-run opposite-field home run.
The blast brought the large group of Nebraska fans on hand to their feet.
The Big Ten tournament is being played this week at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, while Rutgers is the No. 5 seed.
The winner of Wednesday’s first-round game will advance to face Maryland on Thursday. First pitch for the matchup with the Terrapins will be at 6 p.m.
