Bubba Wallace speaks out about boos at NASCAR truck race
Bubba Wallace wasn’t the most popular driver during this weekend’s NASCAR truck race, hearing immense boos throughout.
However, he had a fascinating way of responding to it when asked about them by a reporter after the race, turning the question around on them,
“It’s every week,” Wallace responded, regarding the booing. “How does it make you feel?” Wallace said, asking the reporter their opinion.
“Not great,” the reporter responded.
Alas, the booing couldn’t stop Wallace from an impressive day. The wheelman finished fifth in the truck series race, and he was feeling damn good about it afterwards.
“Hey, as long as you continue to live your life, judging a book by its cover, that’s who you are,” Wallace added. “Don’t change it up for anybody else. That’s the biggest thing. That’s fine.
“I mean I finished 5th. I got a good payday. I’m good.”
For better or worse, Bubba Wallace will remain a polarizing figure in the NASCAR community moving forward, it seems. Nevertheless, his talent is beginning the shine through more and more, and he could begin to win over some of his biggest detractors moving forward.
Bubba Wallace wins Sports Emmy for documentary series ‘Race: Bubba Wallace’
Meanwhile, the NASCAR Cup Series driver received immense praise from an interesting place over the weekend, as it was announced Bubba Wallace took home the Sports Emmy for “Outstanding Documentary Series — Serialized” for his Netflix documentary series “Race: Bubba Wallace.”
23XI Racing made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday.
The six-episode series takes viewers behind the scenes of the 2021 NASCAR season through the eyes of the only Black driver at the top level of the sport, and explores Wallace, 23XI Racing, and NASCAR’s efforts to advocate for inclusion and equality in racing and beyond, Netflix states.
Wallace’s documentary series won out over Prime Video‘s “Coach Prime,” Netflix‘s “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” HBO‘s “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Detroit Lions,” and Netflix‘s “Last Chance U.”
Wallace received an outpouring of congratulations from fans on Twitter.
“Fantastic series! Totally recommend,” one fan wrote. “Great insight into the stresses that @BubbaWallace goes through on a daily basis. Really awesome stuff.”
Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports praised the amount of work that went into producing the documentary series.
“The Bubba Wallace series on Netflix won a Sports Emmy,” Pockrass tweeted. “I was interviewed a couple times for it and I was impressed with the time and dedication of the producers to this series.”
