Over half of June’s official visitors are from out of state
Texas is recruiting out of state more than ever before under Steve Sarkisian and staff.
The Longhorns have steadily increased the out of state footprint since Sarkisian arrived in Austin. The 2022 and 2023 classes saw Texas sign out of state prospects from Louisiana, California, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey, Washington and Utah.
The June official visits scheduled already include the states of Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, California, Alabama, Mississippi, Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey, Arkansas and Maryland.
After signing eight out of state prospects out of 28 signees in the 2022 class, Texas inked 10 out of state prospects in the 2023 class out of 25.
The number of signees continues to rise with more of an emphasis on Southeast Region recruiting ahead of the move to the SEC. The state of Florida alone has become a much more targeted state with addition of Tashard Choice to the staff following the 2021 season.
With June official visits right around the corner, the Longhorns have an increased emphasis on out of state prospects vs. a cycle ago. In the 2023 cycle, Texas hosted 16 out of state official visitors out of 45 official visits total (not counting portal transfers).
The official visits for the 2024 cycle will begin June 1 with California 4-star tight end Ryner Swanson arriving in Austin. That official visit will be the first of 23 official visits by out of state prospects, and that number will increase. The list of in-state visitors currently sits at 20, but that number is also expected to increase by at least two.
