Packed recruiting intel: Previewing 3 key commitment decisions

NC State will hear three key commitment decisions during the first week of July. Three-star running back Kentrell Rinehart, three-star offensive lineman Andrew Stargel and three-star defensive lineman Makhi Williams-Lee will all announce their collegiate home over the next couple of days.

Each of the three recruits officially visited Raleigh in June and set a defined top group that includes NC State. Two of them are trending towards the Wolfpack, while one of the prospects appears to be leaning elsewhere.

With Stargel and Williams-Lee’s decisions set for July 4, and Rinehart’s commitment scheduled for July 5, let’s break down the latest intel around each of their recruitments.

Three-star defensive lineman Makhi Williams-Lee

Scheduled announcement: July 4 at 6:50 p.m. ET
Ranking: No. 88 defensive lineman nationally, No. 97 prospect in Georgia (On3)
Height/weight:
 6-1, 290 pounds
School:
 Atlanta (Ga.) Lakeside High
Other notable offers:
 Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Kansas State
Official visits: NC State (June 7), Oklahoma (June 14), Texas Tech (June 21)

The scoop: NC State offered Williams-Lee in May and quickly established itself as a contender with the Lakeside High star. He quickly grew comfortable with the school and locked in an official visit. The lineman’s weekend in Raleigh went well.

“You could tell they love what they’re doing,” Williams-Lee said. “They’re passionate about what they’re doing, and they want the best for you.”

Williams-Lee bonded with defensive line coach Charley Wiles and also learned necessary information about the Pack’s defense. NC State’s 3-man front gave him pause at first but, as he learned more about the scheme, he saw a fit for himself. Oklahoma remains the main other team to monitor here, but TheWolfpacker.com likes where NC State stands.

Three-star offensive lineman Andrew Stargel

Scheduled announcement: July 4
Ranking: No. 66 interior offensive lineman nationally, No. 104 prospect in Georgia (On3)
Height/weight: 6-4, 284 pounds
School: Roswell (Ga.) High
Other notable offers: Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville
Official visits: UCF (May 31), Ohio State (June 7), NC State (June 14)

The scoop: Stargel cut his official visit schedule short after spending June 14-16 with the Wolfpack. He felt ready to make his decision and focused on three schools— NC State, Ohio State and UCF. The Golden Knights hosted him first and now hold the momentum in his recruitment. The Pack left a great impression on his official visit and established itself as a contender, but he has a longstanding bond with UCF.

“The city was beautiful,” Stargel said. “I really enjoyed being in Raleigh.”

Three-star running back Kentrell Rinehart

Scheduled announcement: July 5, 5:30 p.m. ET
Ranking: No. 459 nationally, No. 35 running back, No. 17 prospect in Ohio (On3 Industry)
Height/weight: 6-2, 200 pounds
School: Columbus (Ohio) Westland
Other notable offers: Miami, Missouri, Kentucky
Official visits: Minnesota (June 7), NC State (June 21)

The scoop: NC State made Rinehart its No. 1 running back target early this year. He visited for the first time in March and returned in June. On both trips, the Wolfpack treated him like a clear priority. TheWolfpacker.com submitted an RPM pick in NC State’s favor for the key running back prospect June 3 and remains confident in that prediction.

“He said it was going to be one of the best visits I’ve been on, and it definitely lived up to the expectation,” Rinehart told TheWolfpacker.com after visiting in March. “I was definitely blown away.”

He did not take previously scheduled trips to Iowa and Syracuse. The Orange was one of the Wolfpack’s main competitors. Now, it looks Minnesota poses the main threat. NC State running backs coach Todd Goebbel’s connections to Ohio have helped the program here, but the Wolfpack has just done a great job communicating how much they want Rinehart in this class.
