LSU commit Sammy Kane connects with history, development of LSU

2026 Carmichael (Calif.) Jesuit do-it-all prospect and LSU Baseball commit Sammy Kane is excited about his future in Baton Rouge. He committed back in January 2023, before the Tigers went on their run to a National Championship.

“I went to campus for a weekend camp and met the coaching staff and got a chance to get a feel for the campus,” Kane told On3. “When I left I knew that if I got the chance, that was where I wanted to go.

“LSU has a long history of producing championship caliber teams and developing players into professional baseball players. They were the top team when my dad was playing and so he always talked to me about LSU baseball.”

The 6-1, 185-pound prospect likes Jay Johnson’s consistency when it comes to winning and he kept a close eye on that run to a National Championship.

“He’s an extremely hard working coach who has had success everywhere he has been,” Kane said. “His players seem to like playing for him. He is committed to putting the best team on the field and winning championships.

“I watched every game and it confirmed to me that LSU baseball was something that I wanted to be a part of.”

This summer, he’s got a few things he’s working on, which speaks to his versatility that he can bring to the college level. Perfect Game ranks him as an 8, which is a college prospect who is a possible future draft pick with development.

“I have been working on increasing my speed and my strength because I know I will need to be faster and stronger to play at the next level. The strongest parts of my game are being able to pitch and hit and I take a lot of pride in my defense.”
