Four-star RB Akylin Dear decommits from Ole Miss. Now what?

Four-star running back Akylin Dear announced his decommitment from Ole Miss Friday.

The 6-foot, 200 pound prospect joined Ole Miss’ 2025 class earlier this spring after a long-standing relationship with the Rebels’ staff. It came as no surprise as Dear has been a big part of Lane Kiffin‘s plan for the 2025 class. The No. 36 overall prospect in On3’s Industry Ranking is the 2nd-ranked running back in the class and Mississippi’s No. 2 recruit.

After Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer turned the heat up on Dear, the in-state four-star took an official visit to Tuscaloosa in June. Since the visit, the Crimson Tide have been in his ear now one of Ole Miss’ top targets has opted to reopen his recruitment.

Akylin Dear was Ole Miss’ top 2025 commit.

It’s the fourth decommitment this week. Four-stars Dillon Alfred and Jerome Myles were joined by Corey Amos Monday.

Ole Miss still hopes to sign Dear in December as well as two other backs. Three-star Shekai Mills-Knight and Missouri commit Jamarion Morrow are on the running back board next to Dear. Ole Miss will be looking to possibly replace every running back on the roster after 2024. Kiffin and running backs coach Kevin Smith are wanting to overhaul the room quickly.

Sources tell OMSpirit the Ole Miss staff is still confident in gaining Dear’s commitment back.
