Oklahoma’s class of 2024 is six commitments but only one position has a pair of pledges – wide receiver. The position, led by Emmett Jones in his first months on the job, has already reeled in a pair of speedy receivers in Kelly Daniels and Zion Kearney. But with Oklahoma looking at the potential of losing three receivers to graduation and the ever-present reality of the transfer portal Oklahoma figures to double their current number of commitments.

Sooners Commits Bringing More Speed
There’s plenty for Oklahoma to feel good about with Kearney and Daniels and, similarly, it’s not hard to see what the Sooners liked about both. Kearney is a big and physical outside receiver who not only has the speed to stretch the field but is a guy that is durable enough to go across the middle and make the tough catch. Kearney’s head coach, Cornelius Anthony, says his prize receiver is as a hard-worker that has grown his game and OU will hope for further growth.
Daniels brings similar speed to the table but is a traditional slot receiver who works into space and once there is a problem to track down. He’s a nice fit and will give Oklahoma more ability to stretch the field from a variety of positions on the field.
Simply put both are a very natural fit within Jeff Lebby‘s offensive scheme.
More Help from the Lone Star State?
With one commitment from Texas already in the boat the Sooners are looking to add more talent from their all too familiar recruiting ground. The two primary options for that, at least at the moment, are Timpson small-school star Terry Bussey and Midlothian’s Bryant Wesco.
Bussey is the embodiment of a do-it-all star for Timpson and has led the Bears to deep playoff runs the last two years. Oklahoma has been in and out of his recruitment but he has built a good relationship with Lebby and is clearly planning to return to Norman this summer to familiarize himself a bit better with Jones. The Sooners are probably a longshot here but there’s no question that they’ll try and make a real with Bussey.
Contrarily, Wesco has been a focal point of Oklahoma’s recruiting efforts in 2024 since being offered at last summer’s Oklahoma camp. And really since that point it seemed a near foregone conclusion he’d end up in Norman. However when his sister left the soccer program in Norman, to transfer to North Texas, it felt like the narrative changed.
He has set five official visits and none of them is Oklahoma – obviously not a positive development for the Sooners. Still there remains some belief things will sort themselves out and a later official visit remains a possibility thanks to the NCAA’s new allowance of unlimited official visits.
Sooners Still Looking Nationally
Oklahoma’s prospects nationally aren’t as clear cut but they’ve definitely taken a look at several options and possibly most notably is River Rouge, Mich. top 100 prospect Nick Marsh. He had some early interest in the Sooners but this summer figures to be telling as far as how seriously involved Oklahoma can become.
A receiver who has made it to campus and came away impressed is New Orleans Holy Cross standout Koby Young. The talented pass-catcher was a player that seemed to catch Jones’s eye early and made it to Norman this spring. It’s going to be tough for Oklahoma to topple in-state LSU but the Sooners seem likely to get a return visit this summer.
A player who made repeat visits to Norman is Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville speed-receiver Mario Craver. Craver has been to Oklahoma several times but there is still some question of where he fits into the current plans. Even if the Sooners push both Alabama and Auburn seem to have made a priority of him.
Oklahoma’s receiver class is off to a very solid start but where it goes, and notably what may happen with Wesco, may say a lot of the group’s final outcome.
