Miami had been pushing to land Buford (Ga.) 2025 Georgia commit linebacker Jadon Perlotte, the No. 37 overall prospect in the class, for some time before his weekend visit to Coral Gables for last Saturday’s elite junior day and pool party with head coach Mario Cristobal.
Now, after his first trip to Miami, he’s feeling good about where things sit with the Hurricanes.
“They’ve been recruiting me hard since day one,” Perlotte said. “Ever since the first day of my ninth grade year, coach Cristobal has been showing up at my school, just supporting me. That’s probably the biggest reason (why he’s interested in Miami), just because the head coach of Miami is recruiting me, and I’ve been paying attention to that.”
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker felt he needed to get to Miami at least once and felt like he saw everything he wanted to see. He called the Hurricanes “Linebacker U” and cited his love of Ray Lewis. Perlotte said the visit went well overall and Miami “blew away my mind.”
Linebackers coach Derek Nicholson and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry showed Perlotte the hybrid-style role they want to use Perlotte in by having him drop into coverage and rush off the edge. He said the Hurricanes want him to lead their defense.
Even if that means suiting up sooner rather than later.
“Every time I talk to coach (Nicholson), he tells me if I need to reclassify and come here now, I can play right now,” Perlotte said with a chuckle. “I can tell he’s being serious, not joking, like ‘Yeah, I need you to come play with me now.’ It just means a lot hearing that.”
Perlotte hears from Miami through approved channels “about every other day” despite being an underclassman, which he values heavily.
The No. 3-ranked linebacker in the 2025 class said his decision to sign will ultimately come down to where he feels is best for him and his family, not about things like playing time.
“I feel like I can play on any team in the world,” Perlotte said. “I’m not worried about playing time. I’m gonna get my playing time. It’s just gonna be how (my family) feels about it, and then relationships.”
Perlotte said he committed to Georgia Dec. 8 in part because “who doesn’t want to play at Georgia” in addition to being his home state school. But he still wants to consider Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Miami, USC and Florida State. Perlotte feels he’s built relationships with those schools and was impressed by their recruiting effort after he committed.
All six schools have checked up on Perlotte at his school since the start of the evaluation period. Miami visited Buford during the second week of May.
He hopes to visit Ohio State and Oregon this spring.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami is communicating with Perlotte as much as you can communicate with any 2025 target before the start of their junior year, and he’s set to be a major priority target for the Canes once focus shifts to the next class.
