Georgia’s “history of winning” stands out to touted WR CJ Wiley
Milton (Ga.) High On300 receiver CJ Wiley took his official visit to Georgia this past weekend.
The blue-chip pass catcher continues to see a potential bright future in Athens playing for Kirby Smart and his staff.
“I had a good visit,” Wiley told On3 on Friday. “We enjoyed it.
“The takeaways were that I got a chance to meet all of the staff, academic advisors, and some of the players, meet with the coaches. We had a chance to visit Coach Smart’s house. Everyone expressed that UGA is a great place, and they needed me.”
Wiley added “the history of winning” makes Georgia unique.
The Bulldogs are battling Auburn, Florida State and LSU among others for Wiley who On3 ranks as the country’s No. 6 receiver and No. 43 prospect overall.
Wiley was joined by his family
“I thought it went well,” Wiley’s father Chuck said. The elder Wiley played defensive line at LSU before a long NFL career. “It was solid. I thought they did a great job hospitality wise. Coach Smart got a chance to meet Wiley has been to Georgia games in the past and they were also at the recent Kirby Smart Scavenger Hunt. The elder Wiley elaborated on this official.
“Coach (James) Coley did a good job,” Chuck said. “Coach Cam Odom did a great job. He showed us around campus, talked to us abut the program and expectations of for the receivers. Coach D-Hill (David Hill), Coach Donte (Williams) and Coach Smart. We got a chance to meet more of the staff. I feel they did a good job reaching out to us talking about the program. Coach (Mike) Bobo as well having meetings, see the plan, it was cool. Everything went well.
“We talked to Coach Coop (David Cooper) as well. Coach Coop was like the emcee for the OV. He did a good job talking about the program. I think one of the highlights was Jonas Jennings. I’ve been knowing Jonas since we played against each other in the NFL. I thought he was the highlight talking about his role helping guys. He has taken a passion helping young men making sure they’re going to be taken care of outside the football arena. I thought he was a valuable resource.”
Chuck Wiley said the same about the history of winning that his son pointed to.
“Kirby has had it trending in the right direction the last nine years,” Chuck said. “They have two national titles under their belt. Coach Bobo coming in and opening the offense throwing the ball I think that’s great. You look at the culture, when I saw Georgia it reminded me when I was in college. Especially being a defensive player, they have a really good defense. I thought team wise it was solid and everything.”
What’s next
Wiley is at LSU this weekend and wraps at Florida State next weekend before his scheduled commitment date of June 25.
Auburn got its official visit in April.
