Why speedy RB recruit Isaiah Rogers could be in contention for Notre Dame offer
The Notre Dame football program has only offered one 2027 class offensive recruit. Still, Springfield (Mass.) Springfield Central running back Isaiah Rogers is a prospect who could be in contention to be the second.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder already has offers from Boston College, Maryland, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Syracuse. Most of that attention has come from the track times the rising sophomore has recorded this offseason. He split carries as a football freshman, limiting his exposure to college coaches.
Rogers finally received the spotlight in South Bend on June 2. He was one of the five running backs who participated in the program’s Irish Invasion camp. Although he did not receive an immediate Notre Dame offer, running backs coach Deland McCullough’s guidance could have Rogers contending for one after a strong sophomore campaign.
“I love how he described the drills and showed how that translates into the game,” Rogers said. “He coaches very specifically. He is a great coach.”
The practice portion of the Irish Invasion was the most meaningful for Rogers. He did not test due to a hamstring tweak. However, he posted a 10.74-second 40 this spring and has been clocked in the 4.5s in the 40-yard dash.
Those times have been worthy of the attention of other power conference programs.
Isaiah Rogers shares impressions of Notre Dame
Before visiting Notre Dame, Rogers was at Mississippi State. He also plans to see Nebraska and Syracuse this month. While the Irish are the only team among that group that has not offered, he still felt compelled to get to campus.
“I wanted to get work,” he said. “I want to get work with different coaches to see how they play and how I would fit in that running backs room.”
After working out with McCullough, Rogers said he could see himself at Notre Dame.
“Yes, definitely, because working with the coaches is the No. 1 priority when going to a school,” he said. “It gave me a sense of how they coach during the season.”
In addition to McCullough, Rogers was also impressed by Notre Dame’s campus.
“It was very historic,” he said. “I love the history that goes into the school. I love seeing how the players have gone to the NFL.”
To have the chance to make it to the professional ranks from Notre Dame, Rogers will have to add a scholarship offer from the program. McCullough’s feedback has hinted at how Rogers could earn himself one.
“He said I need to get more film,” he said. “I have the starting job now. I just have to build my resume.”
