Ole Miss basketball officially unveiled half of its decorated transfer class on Thursday.

The remainder came less than a day later.

Arguably the biggest land for now-second-year Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard during the off-season was Sam Houston State guard Davon Barnes.

Barnes averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in 2023-24. He scored double-figure points in 25 games and shot nearly 40 percent from three.

Barnes scored 21 against Ole Miss in the ‘Throwback Game at the Tad Pad’ in November. The Rebels escaped with a 70-67 win. They won 20 games overall but missed the postseason entirely.

“It’s a talent-based business,” Beard said at the Memphis Rebel Road Trip stop. “Try to get a roster that can compete in the SEC, which translates to us being able to compete nationally. We tried to improve our skill level, which I think we did.”

Dre Davis is formerly of Louisville and Seton Hall.

He averaged 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks for Seton Hall in last year’s NIT

Fifth-year forward Ja’Von Benson topped Hampton in blocks (46). He posted 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds, as well as shot 60 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range

Three of Benson’s previous seasons were spent at South Carolina.

“We’re obviously going to be an experienced team,” Beard said. Beard early next week will appear on the Ole Miss Spirit’s ‘Ivey League’ podcast

“We have eight seniors on the team. Four or five are playing their fifth year. There will be other experienced teams in college basketball, but I would argue there’s going to be nobody more experienced than us just in terms of games played.”
