4-star EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro recaps SMU official visit
2025 four-star Los Angeles (Calif.) King Drew Medical Magnet EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro wrapped up his SMU official visit to the Hilltop last weekend, which impressed him.
“This SMU visit was great,” Onyeagoro told On3 of the visit. “It definitely blew me away and crushed all my expectations. The coaching staff is elite and they’re looking to build something special that I can definitely see my self fitting into.
“It’s a family over there and they have a real plan for me that can benefit me and the team. I feel like the program has a lot of momentum in its favor.”
EDGE coach Sam Dunnam and linebackers coach Maurice Crum are pushing hard for him to commit to the Mustangs. He plans a decision on July 1.
“I talk with coach Dunnam and coach Crum the most. They are amazing people,” Onyeagoro said. “They want me to play that edge position, but also drop in coverage and blitz and play a little linebacker.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he’s the No. 396 overall prospect and 35th-ranked EDGE in America.
The 6-4, 215-pound prospect has programs like Arizona State, Northwestern, Washington and others after him. Washington hosts him for an official visit next weekend. Onyeagoro notched 103 tackles and 21 sacks as a junior.
