Miami has golden opportunity for local 4-star on OV this weekend with decision coming soon: “We have a great relationship”

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star cornerback Chris Ewald Jr. will only take official visits to Miami and Georgia before announcing a commitment June 27. So he wants to see something he’s never seen before on this weekend’s trip to Coral Gables.

Ewald, the No. 162 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 20 cornerback in the 2025 class, isn’t looking for anything specific on his Miami visit but wants the staff to surprise him with something different this weekend. He’s been to Miami’s campus more than any other school — including Michigan, who he was committed to for over a year before former head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL — and feels he’s seen almost everything he can see in Coral Gables. But with a decision less than two weeks away, the pressure is on his two finalists to make one final impression before he commits.

He’ll visit Georgia next weekend and thinks the two programs are neck-and-neck.

“I really don’t know (what specifically he hopes to learn) on these two visits,” Ewald said. “I want them to show me something I’ve never seen before. I know (Miami’s) facilities and everything, so I really don’t know what else to expect. So I’m really going just to see what they have to say.”

Miami and Georgia have been the two most consistent schools for Ewald over the last few months and have made the biggest impressions on him and his family, he said. He believes he could fit at either of the two programs, but he wants to get a better feel for the personalities of players and coaches and looking into the environment he’ll be in for the next three or four seasons.

Ewald’s mother and father will accompany him on the trip, although he said they aren’t looking for anything specific and want to explore the campus and coaches more generally. However, they’ve also been impressed with the effort Miami has made for the 5-foot-11.5, 165-pound cornerback.

“We have a great relationship (with Miami),” Ewald said. “It’s getting better week by week. That’s really it. … I don’t really know (what will be the deciding factor in his commitment), so that’s why I’m taking these two OVs before my decision.”

CaneSport’s Take

I wrote in my RPM Rundown earlier this week I still like the position Miami is in for Ewald heading into this official visit, and I still think he’ll end up a Hurricane. Miami’s staff has been all over Ewald this spring and has given itself a better-than-good chance to land his commitment, although they’ll still have to fend off Georgia’s push during his final official visit.
