Miami in heated race for 4-star IOL Max Buchanan ahead of his official visit this weekend: “They’re just going to have to be themselves”

Miami in heated race for 4-star IOL Max Buchanan ahead of his official visit this weekend: “They’re just going to have to be themselves”

It has been a busy summer for Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star interior offensive lineman Max Buchanan, who is headed to Miami this upcoming weekend for his official visit with the Hurricanes.

“I’m feeling good and looking forward to getting around the guys,” Buchanan said. “Seeing how they are and seeing how well I match up with them.”

By the end of June, Buchanan will have taken six official visits. So far the 6-foot-4 prospect has taken trips to Ole Miss, Clemson, UCF, and FSU, with Miami up next, followed by Penn State to end the month.

Buchanan believes seeing what each of his top schools has to offer will play a critical role in his eventual commitment.

“That’s going to play a pretty big role, to be honest,” Buchanan said. “It’s giving me a chance to see the guys and see how well I get along with them and the community around the school as well. Getting to see the coaches that will be coaching me for the next four years if I go there as well.”

Buchanan explained that his decision will come down to where he feels the most comfortable and has the most authentic connection.

“They’re just going to have to be themselves,” Buchanan explained. “I’m done with all the recruiting stuff and just want to see how they really are. It’s essentially tied right now with all the schools.”

Ahead of Buchanan’s trip to Miami, communication has been at an all-time high between the No. 279 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, and the Hurricanes.

“It’s always been good, and they’ve had consistent contact with me,” Buchanan said. “We talk a lot; it’s going to feel good to be back down there.”

Leading the charge for the Canes in Buchanan’s recruitment is Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal

“I have connected the most with coach Mirabal,” Buchanan said. “The message to me, I would say, is that they know I can be great. It makes me feel great because not only are they believing in me, but so is the University.”

Miami’s emphasis on developing offensive linemen is something that has also drawn Buchanan closer to the program and Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal, who has been involved in his recruitment as well.

“Just their history of being a great program,” Buchanan said. “Both coaches, Cristobal and Mirabal, being offensive line guys definitely plays a part in it, and just the knowledge on that team right now is crazy.”

CaneSport’s take

It’s a crowded race for Buchanan, who will have taken six official visits within a month and a half. Miami will need to do something to separate themselves from the pack and will have the perfect opportunity to do so on his official visit.
