NC State commitment analysis: 3-star cornerback Caden Gordon
NC State picked up its second cornerback commitment of the 2025 class this week when Caden Gordon announced his decision TK. The Wolfpack is enjoying quite a bit of success recruiting Florida this cycle, and the Lake Worth (Fla.) Santaluces Community High star is the latest prospect to join the program.
He picked NC State over offers from Florida State, Louisville, Georgia Tech and others. Gordon has just one season of cornerback experience under his belt but is considered the No. 48 prospect at his position nationally by On3.
After hosting him and 10 other recruits June 7-9, the rising senior is the No. 7 commit in the Wolfpack’s class.
Who’s left on the cornerback board
NC State’s cornerback board was extremely crowded going into official visit season. Robert Jones III and Gordon both committed to the program after spending a weekend in Raleigh. The Pack planned on taking at least two prep cornerbacks this cycle but, given the positional versatility of some prospects left on the board, it would not be surprising to see the Pack take another commitment later in the cycle.
Four-star Jontae Gilbert, who On3 considers a safety, is a top priority for the program and will visit June 19-21. He is the No. 131 recruit in the country and, giving his versatility, is likely a take no matter what the Pack’s class looks like.
Cam Strong also visited June 7-9, and his recruitment is down to West Virginia, Georgia Tech and NC State. He plans on visiting the Yellow Jackets this weekend, and the Pack remains in a good spot here. NC State believes Jones and Strong could play nickel, so continue to keep an eye on the the long time priority prsopect.
Gordon shows obvious talent despite lack of experience
Gordon switched positions from wide receiver to cornerback ahead of his junior season and immediately emerged as a Power Four recruit. He picked up the majority of his scholarships in the early months of this year after recording 16 tackles as a junior, including 14 solo stops, and 1 interception during the 2023 season.
He looks quick in coverage and has a knack for closing quickly and using his length to break up passes. A few of his season highlights came against elite competition as well. As is required for NC State cornerback prospects, he also shows a willingness to tackle. Standing 6-1, 170 pounds, it’s easy to see Gordon’s potential.
NC State continues its success in Florida
Four of the Wolfpack’s seven class of 2025 commits are from Florida. NC State prioritized the Sunshine State early in this cycle, and the staff spent a lot of time there during the evaluation periods. That effort on the recruiting trail paid off with several early commitments this month. Keep an eye on Florida moving forward. NC State is not done recruiting the state for this cycle.
