OU receiver Deion Burks arrested for DUI, speeding

OU wide receiver Deion Burks was arrested on June 1 for speeding and driving under the influence, according to an affidavit obtained by SoonerScoop.com.

The affidavit provided by the Cleveland County Court Clerk’s office states that Burks was pulled over near I-35 and Indian Hills Road at 2:40 a.m. on June 1. Burks was going 89 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone and had an open bottle of alcohol in the vehicle. He admitted to the officer that he had been drinking before driving and recorded a .09 breathalyzer rate. The legal limit is .08.

Burks was charged with speeding, transporting an open container and DUI. He was officially charged with a misdemeanor on Tuesday.

“We are aware of the matter and it is being addressed internally,” an athletics department spokesperson said in a statement to SoonerScoop.com.

Burks transferred to Oklahoma from Purdue. He is expected to be one of OU’s top contributors at receiver next season after totaling 629 yards and seven touchdowns last season for the Boilermakers.
