Kansas State visit hits all the marks for Leo Almanza

Kansas State had a massive football recruiting weekend.

11 official visitors were in town, including the three commits for the Wildcats going into the weekend. Derby cornerback Martel Jackson became the fourth. They are hoping for a similar result with major target and Trophy Club, Texas safety Leo Almanza.

It was the Lone Star State native’s second time in The Little Apple and he left impressed once again.

“I had a great time,” Almanza said. “I got to really see everything K-State is about. I spent a lot of time meeting with the coaches and connecting with the players.”

“Being able to sit down and talk with Coach [Joe] Klanderman and Coach [Chris] Klieman was my favorite part,” he added. “Talking football and getting so see how I would be used on the field and them telling me what their program is about. They see me being a guy that can come in and fit to what they are doing schematically and fitting into the locker room really well.”

Being around Klanderman more really struck a chord with the Kansas State safety target.

“He’s a really good, genuine guy and he’s the same,” Almanza shared. “Whether he’s at practice around his players or he’s in a meeting with me and my family.”

K-State safety Jack Fabris was Almanza’s host over the weekend, and it was a great pairing.

“He’s a cool, genuine dude,” Almanza noted. “I definitely enjoyed having him as my host.”

So far Almanza has taken official visits to both Utah and Kansas State.

“Both visits went through the same thing, but there was more kids at my K-State visit because it’s in June versus my Utah one in April,” he pointed out. “There was also some kids I played middle school football with at K-State (Dillon Duff and Lucas Allgeyer). I haven’t seen them in a couple years so it was cool to see them again.”

He already released a top four of Utah, Kansas State, Baylor and Houston. That group is receiving all of his attention and focus.

“One thing all the schools have in common are great coaching staffs and ones that believe in me and I believe in them,” Almanza stated. “That’s really the thing that makes them the top four. They are the best relationships I have. Also they’re all teams that have been successful or are trending in the right direction.”

The Texan is hoping to commit to a school by the end of June.
