Chris Lawson Recaps Oregon Official Visit as Commitment Looms

Oregon hosted its first official visit weekend of the summer and already landed a big commitment in 2025 Tampa (Fla.) Sumner offensive tackle Ziyare Addison. San Francisco (Calif.) Archbishop Riordan ATH Chris Lawson another big recruit on campus for his official visit and he spoke with ScoopDuck about the trip.

“Really the biggest thing that stood out to me was just being around the players,” Lawson said. “Seeing how they they really are—asking them questions about the coaches and all that was my biggest takeaway. Because I’ve been there a couple of times, so I’m pretty comfortable up there.”

It sounds like Oregon showed Lawson plenty of attention during his few days in Eugene, as he highlighted multiple coaches when asked who he spent most of his time with.

“Really all of ’em. We were all pretty much together the whole weekend. I was with Coach (Dan) Lanning, Coach (Junior) Adams, Coach (Chris) Hampton, Coach Tosh (Lupoi), Coach (Rashad) Wadood, Coach (Will) Stein. Offensive and defensive coaches.”

Lawson’s versatility has been a big theme in his recruitment and there were conversations with the staff, but the coaches don’t appear to be favoring a particular side of the ball.

“Yeah if I were to go there they would be signing me as an athlete,” he said.” Really wherever I fit in best at.”

He was hosted by fellow Bay Area native Sione Laulea III and also spent time with quarterback Dante Moore over the weekend.

“I know one of their DB’s Sione, I was with him he was my player host. I’ve been knowing him for a little while. We go to the same trainer out here in the Bay. I was with him and Dante (Moore) for most of the time when I was out with him.”

The two Ducks spoke about their player experience in Eugene, with Moore speaking to the genuine nature of those inside the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex.

“They were just telling me how all the people, everybody’s pretty cool. I asked Dante what was the reason he came over to Oregon from UCLA. He just said the people, all the people are real good, real genuine.”

Lawson has been a frequent visitor at Oregon and the consistency of their approach could end up being a plus ahead of his June 21 commitment.

“I feel like every time I go there, I get the same vibe every time, it’s not really a change up,” he said. “Honestly it’s always good vibes up there. It was pretty regular. This is probably my fourth or fifth time up there.”

It doesn’t seem like there’s much separation among his three finalists coming out of this weekend’s visit.

“Pretty much they’re really at the top right now,” he said of where Oregon stands. “Them and UW are really neck and neck right now. Because I haven’t been to my Cal official. So right now those are really neck and neck for me.”

Lawson Talks Washington Interest, Official Visit

“It was really good. I went up there last week. I got to sit down with the players, spend a lot of time with them, see how they run things up there. I really liked it up there. They have a lot of NFL experience in the building, so that was really a big thing that stood out to me.”

The Huskies are also impressed by his versatility, although they may see him more on offense than defense.

“Pretty much the athlete deal. But Coach (Jedd) Fisch he said if I want to come in, he thinks I should start at receiver and then if I want to I could still switch to DB once I get comfortable. I feel like they’re pretty open with whatever I’m comfortable with, what I can handle.”

Hometown Golden Bears Get Final Visit

“I got a pretty good connection with Coach (Burl) Toler up there. I really like the staff. I went up there on an unofficial, everybody’s cool up there. My top three, I really broke it down to who I really had the best relationships with. Really I got good relationships with all my tops. ‘Cause they’ve been recruiting me since my freshman year. Comfortable with all these schools.”

The San Francisco standout wants to stick to his June 21 commitment date and highlighted what needs to happen before then for him to be comfortable making a decision.

“Just praying on it. Really where I see myself best fit. ‘Cause honestly the people in all the buildings are really good, so it’s really just up to where I want to be at, where I feel most comfortable.”
