Tennessee is trending for a major target

Over the weekend, Tennessee had multiple recruits on campus for official visits. One was EDGE Jayden Loftin. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder out of Somerville (N.J.) first visited Knoxville in the spring for a spring practice. The Vols set the tone in his recruitment then, and after his official visit, Tennessee is trending.

Loftin is coming off an official visit to Wisconsin last weekend and he is scheduled to visit Syracuse on June 14 and Penn State on June 21. Those schools will have some work to do based on intel coming off Loftin’s official visit to Tennessee. I am hearing the Vols built on the momentum they started back in the spring with Loftin and his family.

Josh Heupel has been involved in his recruitment and that means a lot to Loftin and his family. Tennessee has recruited Loftin as hard as anyone, and coming off this official visit to Knoxville, I like their position. I have logged a pick for the Vols on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Loftin praised Tennessee after his official visit

“It was great, honestly,” Loftin told Mat Ray of VolQuest about the trip. “The people here are second to none. When you have felt the game day atmosphere and how involved the people around the Vols are, it is great to have that cushion to fall back on. It is honestly a great feeling. This trip, I was looking for, as I am looking to make my decision, I am looking for someone like my trainer back home. I think Coach G has honestly had the experience, the resume, to get me to the place I want to be.”

Loftin learned plenty about his potential fit on Rocky Top during the weekend. He heard about the LEO position and potentially playing as a strong side defensive end, since he measured in at 6-4, 250 pounds.

“I think that suits me well coming off the edge as a speed rusher,” Loftin said of this. “I think of myself as a speed rusher, so it would be coming off the edge in space where I do what I do best. I am starting to gain weight, so they started talking to me about that strong side defensive end position a little bit, too. I don’t mind that because I have always played with my hand in the dirt.”

Loftin also enjoyed his time being around Tennessee Head Coach Josh Heupel during the weekend.

“Coach Heupel is the guy,” Loftin said. ” He doesn’t try to do too much. For who he is, he is a very humble guy. He holds it down and cares about everyone in his program. He makes sure everyone is alright.”
