The latest on On300 safety and Notre Dame commit Ivan Taylor as two other powerhouse programs remain in the picture

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange On300 safety Ivan Taylor has been committed to Notre Dame since Dec 1. He is one of the jewels of an Irish class ranked No. 5 nationally per the On3 Industry.

Since Taylor gave his verbal to ND, he saw lead recruiter and potential future position coach Chris O’Leary leave the program for a job with Jim Harbaugh and the San Diego Chargers.

One source says that has opened the door for other suitors.

Alabama are Michigan are those two other programs in the mix.

Bama making it’s big push

As BamaOnLine reported, the 6-foot, 180-pound Taylor is currently in Tuscaloosa this weekend for an official visit. Alabama is on a hot streak right now, landing On300 quarterback Keelon Russell earlier in the week and then beating Georgia, Oregon and USC for On300 defensive back Chuck McDonald on Saturday.

Alabama currently has On3’s No. 6 ranked recruiting class with McDonald one of the jewels. Adding Taylor and five-star cornerback Dijon Lee, who the Crimson Tide currently lead for would be quite a coup. Lee ranks as the No. 1 recruit in California and No. 30 prospect in the land while Taylor checks in at No. 59 regardless of position.

Notre Dame working to hold

From there Taylor is expected back at Notre Dame this coming week for camp and his official visit. Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff are doing all they can to hold Taylor. The Taylor camp alerted ND that the visit to Alabama was coming this weekend and that Ivan needed to see a couple other schools before completely shutting it down.

Wolverines in it too

Sounds like Michigan has been in this one since the spring. We are hearing Taylor could end up in Ann Arbor for an official before the dead period hits at the end of June.

The defending National Champs sit at No. 18 in the On3 Industry Rankings.
