In-state WR Jamier Brown was ‘really happy’ to earn offer from Ohio State

COLUMBUS – It is hard for any wide receiver prospect to earn an offer from Ohio State, let alone an in-state prospect that has yet to play his sophomore season. 

Which is what made it all the more impressive when 2027 Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown was offered by wide receivers coach Brian Hartline following a strong camp performance on Wednesday.

Brown grew up watching the Buckeyes and was overcome with happiness when Hartline told him that he earned an offer.

“I was just really happy that I got the offer, especially with Ohio State being my dream school,” Brown told Lettermen Row. “And I grew up watching Ohio State.”

Ohio State has a history at Wayne. Former quarterback Braxton Miller was a standout for the Warriors and current backup offensive lineman Josh Padilla is the most recent prospect to make the move from Huber Heights to Columbus.

Brown knows the history of Wayne Warriors going on to be Buckeyes and is excited by the opportunity to be the next one. 

“Not that many people from my school have gotten the chance to do what I’ve done. So me being the next person possibly to go to Ohio State from Wayne is a great feeling.”

Hartline was the coach to offer Brown after camp and his message to the in-state standout was simple. He was impressed by Brown’s performance but there still is plenty to work on.

“He was basically just saying that I had a great camp and just still got a lot to work on, especially meat being so young, so I still have a long way to go. But he said he liked what he saw and that he liked that I learned from my mistakes and that I’m coachable.”

Brown appreciated how hard Hartline coached him throughout the camp and how honest he was after it.

“I appreciate it a lot. Because not that many coaches get on you like that. But the coaches that really get on you, they’re the ones that want you to be the best you can be. And to help you develop.”

The 5-foot-11 and 160-pound Brown led Wayne in receiving yards (512) as a freshman and was second on the team in receptions (31) and receiving touchdowns (4).
