Sooners Commits Descending on Norman

Sooners Commits Descending on Norman

Oklahoma’s camp day No. 2 is ready for another solid group of campers with some big-time prospects headed to Norman. But none will be more familiar to Sooners fans than five possible commitments. Included in that group are a quartet of 2025 prospects – Maliek Hawkins, Trystan Haynes, Kevin Sperry, and Trynae Washington.

It will be the Scoop’s first opportunity to watch Hawkins in a while and seeing him go side by side with Haynes will be a very interesting opportunity. Both corners bring a lot of length to the position and just watching where they both are with their physicality and ability to reroute receivers will be worth watching.

Though it’s not yet certain Washington will work out, if he does he’ll be intriguing to watch. Does he follow the path of Zach Turner on Thursday of bouncing back and forth between receiver and tight end? Where does he spend most of his time? We’ll definitely be watching that closely.

Finally for 2025 is the seemingly constant presence of the Sooners quarterback pledge, Sperry. He was on hand on Thursday and truly put on a show. There’s no reason not to expect more of the same with a bunch of young receivers undoubtedly hoping to make an impression at the other end of his throws. Sperry’s touch on his deep balls on Thursday was truly exemplary.

The final pledge expected is 2027 EDGE Zane Rowe, who was another who will be making his second straight visit. The talented pass rusher seemed to take well to Miguel Chavis‘s teaching on Thursday and will hope to continue to refine his knowledge.

More Big Boys Expected in Norman

Among the Sooners many expected visitors, for the second straight camp we’re expecting a lot of big offensive lineman. On Thursday the Sooners hosted two players who already held offers and extended two more new offers – to Chancellor Barclay and Noah Best. On Saturday the possibility for new offers certainly seems to be there.

There are seven offensive lineman we’ve currently got on our list of visitors who already hold FBS offers. Including among them are 2026 Sooners offer Drew Evers along with Jerald Mays, Pulelei Primus, Cortavious Tisaby, and Charlie Ward. In the class of 2027 Texans Vincent Johnson and Brian Swanson are intriguing offensive tackle prospects.

Evers and Mays are prospects that we saw during the 2023 season and both are powerfully built combo guard-tackle types. Evers was outstanding last summer in Norman to earn his offer last June. We’d expect another strong effort on the day.

A Battle Offered in the Trenches

On Thursday the Sooners were a big light on defensive line to truly challenge the impressive offensive line collection on hand. They may not have as many defensive lineman as offensive lineman that the Sooners will be tracking but there’ still plenty of talent to give the blockers some problems.

The group, of course, includes Rowe but beyond the talented Sooners commit is 2026 Sooners offer Hunter Higgins. The Kansas native is making another trip to Norman and seems high on Oklahoma. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares against some quality blockers and discover a bit more about his overall game.

Two 2027 defensive linemen who are expected in Norman on Saturday who already hold offers are Red Oak, Texas standout Johnnie Fitzgerald and Khing Thibodeaux of Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial. Fitzgerald has the look of the first power five defensive tackle to make his way to Norman so far this camp setting. His motor and quickness will be something we’ll be watching closely. If the Sooners deem him to have the right kind of activity levels, he could absolutely be a guy they focus on.
