Recruiting Humidor: 2024 targets, OL news, and basketball recruiting
Inside Texas takes a look at the latest from 2024 targets, offensive line names to know, basketball news, and more in Friday’s recruiting Humidor.
Eli Bowen, CB, Denton Guyer
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound defensive back is set to see Texas in mid-June for his official visit.
Texas A&M is likely the top competition for Bowen, with TCU and Oklahoma making pushes.
Following his brother, 2023 five-star Peyton Bowen, to Norman remains a possibility, but seems unlikely at this juncture.
Bowen keeps tabs on the Texas staff, connecting with Blake Gideon and Terry Joseph.
Jordon Johnson-Rubell, S, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Texas remains in pole position for the On3 four-star defensive back. With offers from virtually everywhere, including Alabama, Ohio State, USC, and Florida, UT remains solid in the hunt.
Johnson-Rubell has a busy June ahead of him. He’ll take an official visit to USC on June 1st, Michigan on June 9th, Ohio State on June 16th, and Texas on June 23rd.
Corian Gipson, DB, Lancaster (Texas)
This is a two-team battle today between Clemson and Texas today. The Tigers have prioritized the On3 four-star safety, hosting him twice in the last two months.
During Lancaster’s spring game, Gipson was wearing Clemson gear, from gloves to sleeves.
Texas won’t back down. Steve Sarkisian and company remain vigilant and will host the dynamic defensive back in June for an official visit.
The big question remains will he be committed to Clemson before he takes his official to UT. If not, this one might be more burnt orange.
Ryner Swanson, TE, Laguna Beach (Calif.)
The On3 four-star tight end and California product Ryner Swanson has narrowed his list of top schools down to five; BYU, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and Utah.
Swanson’s two scheduled official visits are to Oregon and Texas. He’ll trip to Austin on June 1 before heading back to Eugene on June 9. He took unofficials to both schools in the spring, in addition to a trip to Utah on March 30th.
Swanson is the No. 21 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Oregon holds a slim lead over Texas to land the pledge of the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Oregon sits with a 35.8% chance while Texas sits at 31.3%.
Jayden Jackson, DL, Brownsburg (In.) IMG Academy
Texas and Ohio State continue to be considered the top two headed into June official visits with Miami third. Florida and Oklahoma round out the top five. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder will make his official visit to Texas June 23-25.
Offensive line recruiting
Inside Texas continues to feel good about where the Longhorns stand in the offensive line recruitments of center Daniel Cruz (Richland High) and OT Nyier Daniels (Oradell, N.J./Bergen Catholic).
Inside Texas feels like Texas is trending in the right direction with Makai Saina (Arlington Martin High), but work still to be done.
Texas has a legit 50-50 shot at four-star tackle Daniel Calhoun (Marietta, Ga./Walton). Georgia and Texas lead headed into June OV’s with Alabama and Tennessee in it.
In talking with a source in San Marcos, LSU remains the team to beat for underrated OT Ory Williams (San Marcos High). Texas, Texas A&M, and Georgia are still in it headed into June officials.
Hoops recruiting
Texas is very much in the hunt for North Carolina transfer guard Caleb Love. The Longhorns and UConn are thought to be the favorites with Alabama and possibly Florida in the mix. The 6-foot-3.5 guard is among the most explosive and talented in college basketball.
Rutgers shooting guard Cam Spencer just hit the portal as a grad transfer. The 6-foot-4 guard that shoots 43% from three and 90% from the free throw line has serious interest in Texas.
And Texas remains in the mix for Vanderbilt guard Tyrin Lawrence and Creighton small forward Arthur Kaluma.
