NC State CB Aydan White ranked top-50 player in college football
NC State junior cornerback Aydan White emerged as one of the nation’s top defensive backs during the 2022 season. Heading into the summer, On3 considers him one of the 50 best athletes in the nation.
On3’s Charles Power and Clark Brooks ranked the top-100 players in college football this week, and the Wolfpack cornerback slotted in at No. 40. He is the only member of the Pack to make the list.
White received first-team All-ACC honors following his 2022 campaign after finishing second in the conference with 4 interceptions, including a pick-6 during the Wolfpack’s win over Texas Tech.
“Aydan played a really good game,” head coach Dave Doeren said during his post game press conference. “He had the sack, which I thought was a fumble, too. That’s a different conversation, but Aydan really covered well, made some plays on the ball. He’s very confident. It’s great to see him get a pick-six and give us some momentum when we needed it, and he had a really good football game.”
In addition to that impressive total, he also recorded 9 defended passes, 46 total tackles and a sack. According to Pro Football Focus, he led the nation with 482 snaps played without allowing a touchdown.
“Perhaps under the radar some, CBs Aydan White and Cooper DeJean both have first round potential,” Brooks wrote. “White was one of the more tested back-enders, defending 82 targets. Yet he still finished inside the 87th percentile in yards allowed per target (5.5) while not allowing a score. Plus, he tacked on four picks, seven deflections, and 22 defensive stops — good for a top-20 finish at the position.”

Earlier this spring, On3 also ranked the cornerback as the No. 10 athlete as his position.
“The final entry in our list, White was a productive third-year player for NC State,” On3 wrote. “He had a lot of success taking the ball off opponents and he even managed to hit paydirt on one interception.”
Last season was White’s first time in a starting role. In his prior two seasons, he recorded 2 interceptions and 17 total tackles. Now, the defensive back returns this fall alongside redshirt-junior Shyheim Battle, forming one of the top cornerback duos in the country.
The Wolfpack ranked No. 20 nationally in total defense last year, allowing 4.99 yards per play, and the all-conference cornerback was a huge part of that.
