Penn State set to host first 7-on-7 tournament of June

Penn State announced a few changes to its summer football camp schedule back in March, most notably adding a third 7-on-7 tournament this year compared to just two last year. Each of those tournaments will take place the next three Fridays, with the first set to take place just two days from now, June 7.

Last year, both tournaments saw more than 40 teams participate in each, but Penn State is keeping its first competiton a bit smaller than in previous years. Although it’s still possible a team or two could be added, as of Wednesday morning, 16 schools are set to travel to State College Friday morning to compete.

The list is highlighted by a handful of schools that regularly produce Division I talent. That list includes Imani Christian from Pittsburgh, Gonzaga from Washington, D.C., and Roman Catholic from Philadelphia. Other notable schools include District III programs Central Dauphin and Manheim Township, Bishop McNamara from Maryland and Middletown out of Delaware.

Gonzaga will be one of the favorites to win it all. Although 2025 safety Kainoa Winston is set to take an official visit to Penn State later this weekend, we’re told he is expected to participate Friday. NCAA rules prohibit schools from evaluating players if the school pays for a player’s travel, but since he lives within the region, Winston is expected to make the drive up on his own. That’ll

Other 2025 prospects include cornerbacks Lonnie McAllister, who committed to Stanford in April, and Devenchi Arnold.

But it’ll likely be a pair of 2026 prospects at Gonzaga that Penn State’s staff has its eyes on the most. Edge rusher Carter Meadows already holds an offer from the Nittany Lions, while linebacker Kedric Golston also has plenty of interest from the nation’s top schools. Both hold four-star ratings in On3’s Industry Ranking.

Imani Christian is also home to future Penn State defensive end Dayshaun Burnett. He’s expected to be joined by a handful of talented underclassmen, including 2026 running back David Davis and 2027 defensive back Gabriel Jenkins. Both players already hold an offer from the Nittany Lions. Davis is one of Penn State’s top in-state targets in the 2026 class.

Roman Catholic also has a handful of Divison I prospects, most notably 2026 quarterback Semaj Beals. Already closing in on 20 scholarship offers, Beals is a member of the On300 and the 10th-ranked player in Pennsylvania. He’s visited multiple times over the past year and was just in town a few weeks ago for the Elite 11 Regional Camp.

Wide receiver Ash Roberts also holds an offer from Penn State, while running back Eyan Stead is up to six offers and counting. Both are 2026 prospects.
