Purdue 2025 recruiting check up: Tight end

Purdue 2025 recruiting check up: Tight end

MORE RECRUITING CHECKUPS: Quarterbacks | Running backs

On-campus recruiting is beginning to heat up for Purdue with official visits in June.

The staff already has six commitments in the Class of 2025 in what’s expected to be a smaller class … in the 14-18 range. Let’s check in–position-by-position–on how Purdue is recruiting in the 2025 cycle.

Next up: Tight ends.

Current situation

Tight ends coach Justin Sinz arguably has the best position group on the squad, even after Garrett Miller transferred to Texas A&M. Hopes are high for Max Klare, who look poised for freshman All-American honors before suffering a season-ending injury. Klare played in the first five games last season, starting four, making 22 receptions for 196 yards. The sky seemingly is the limit for Klare.

George Burhenn flashed in the finale vs. Indiana, showing speed and playmaking ability, making five catches for 74 yards with a TD. And Drew Biber is better than you think. Freshman Tayvion Galloway drips with potential.

2025 targets

Purdue definitely will take one tight end. And it could maybe take two … if they are the right guys.

The staff has two tight ends set for OVs in June: Nizyi Davis and Brian Kortovich. Davis is the more touted of the duo. Some handicap Purdue’s chances to land Davis at 50/50; perhaps a bit better. It has been difficult to read the Indianapolis native. Kortovich? The Cleveland kid could be a candidate to commit in June.

TE Nizyi Davis, June 21-23 OV

TE Brian Kortovich, June 7-9 OV

Key personnel expected back in 2025

All four tight ends on the roster are expected back in 2025: Klare, Burhenn, Biber and Galloway. With such an enticing collection of talent, it will be interesting to see if the staff can get two tight ends on the field in tandem this fall. Why not?

My take

This position is set up for success this season and next when you consider Biber is a junior in 2024, while Klare and Burhenn are sophomores and Galloway a freshman. Whoever Purdue signs in 2025 would seemingly have a difficult time getting snaps in the short-term. Perhaps that means the staff will sign a developmental tight end in what’s starting to become a crowded room.
