Texas DE Max Granville recaps Penn State official visit

Texas DE Max Granville recaps Penn State official visit

Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Christian Academy defensive end Max Granville made his second trip to Penn State over the weekend. This time around, he got to see more as an official visitor.

“Penn State was great,” Granville said on Sunday afternoon. “I really enjoyed my visit and got to spend a lot of time with the coaching staff. I got to talk to coach [Tom] Allen, coach Deion [Barnes], Torrence Brown and [recruiting assistant] DJ Bryant and those guys. They showed me what it was like to be a Penn State player and we go to talk to the academic people and do a little more than the last time that I was up there.”

The four-star prospect thinks that he could be a big piece of Allen’s defensive plan in the coming years if he was to pick the Nittany Lions. He came into the weekend searching for a certain feeling about Happy Valley.

“With all these official visits, I’m looking for the feeling that I could spend my time there and live there and play football there,” he said. “So that’s what I go into these visits looking for and from talking to the coaches and seeing everything they had, I could see [myself] at Penn State. I feel like I could be one of the guys that could get them over that hump and help them win those games that have been avoiding them in the last couple of years, the Ohio States and Michigans, I feel like I could be one of those players.”

Penn State selling defensive line success to Granville

The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound prospect is one of Barnes’ top targets at defensive end in the cycle. The Nittany Lions’ development at the position is a big reason that Granville came back to Central Pennsylvania for another look.

“The defensive end room speaks for itself,” said Granville. “The way that they play and are developed is something that I’m really looking for. They think that I could be one of those guys that fits in with the room.”

One of those defensive ends, redshirt freshman Mason Robinson, was Granville’s host. The recruit got a chance to get an inside look at the room with Robinson’s guidance.

“I got to talk to Mason Robinson a lot because he was my host,” he said. “We didn’t stay out late or anything, but he told me everything that he thought about his experience at Penn State. He was real with me and told me that he really likes it. There’s a high standard there at that position and they make you earn it every rep.”

Next up for Granville is an official visit to USC next weekend. He plans to see Texas A&M and Oklahoma in June and hopes to decide shortly after his trip to Norman on the weekend of June 21.
