Penn State offers 2024 quarterback Miles O’Neill

Penn State offers 2024 quarterback Miles O’Neill

Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was in Massachusetts on Thursday and watched Marblehead (Mass.) quarterback Miles O’Neill throw. By the time he left, Yurcich had extended a scholarship offer to the rapidly-rising senior prospect.

“He originally told me he was going to wait a couple of days before he offered me, but he offered me on the spot after watching me throw,” said O’Neill. “It’s awesome. I’m super excited. A couple of months ago I had no offers and now Penn State just offered. It’s unreal. I’m enjoying it and taking it all in.”

O’Neill will be in State College this weekend to compete in the Elite 11 quarterback camp at State College Area High School. He’ll also check out Penn State on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound O’Neill is in line to transfer to the Hun School in New Jersey from Marblehead. O’Neill led Marblehead to an 8-2 record in his first year as a starter in 2022. He totaled 2,400 yards, 28 touchdowns and had a 72.3 percent completion rate as a junior.

Penn State joins a host of schools that have offered this spring

He’s watched his recruitment take off during the spring evaluation period. Michigan State was the first Power Five program to offer back on May 8. Virginia, Boston College, Maryland and Pittsburgh came along in the following days. On Tuesday, Texas A&M joined the mix.

O’Neill has an official visit scheduled to Virginia for the first weekend in June and the rest of his summer is open. He said that Duke is among the schools that haven’t offered that has been inquiring lately.

“I definitely want to go see Michigan State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Pitt and BC,” he said.

Penn State has expanded its quarterback board since pivoting from Baltimore four-star Michael Van Buren, who will announce his decision on Saturday. Oregon is the heavy favorite according to the On3 RPM. Yurcich has been watching quarterbacks throw this spring and he’s handed out offers to Ohio three-star Ethan Grunkemeyer, Florida Elite 11 finalist Trever Jackson and Indiana four-star Tyler Cherry.
