Four-star WR Jerrae Hawkins includes Florida Gators in top two
With several official visits set to take place, June is expected to be a very important stretch for IMG Academy pass catcher Jerrae Hawkins.
A native of West Virginia, Hawkins will first meet with the Mountaineers on June 2-4. Then it’s Florida on June 9-11, followed by Penn State on the 23rd. Miami is the other school in Hawkins’ top group, but an official visit with the Hurricanes is not scheduled.
As for the other Sunshine State contender, Hawkins says he is sold on the Gators’ track record of producing NFL wide receivers. He also visited in April and loved what he saw at practice and how the program operates like a “big family.” A strong first impression was definitely made.
“Mainly the culture there,” Hawkins told Gators Online when referring to UF. “The head coach and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, the guys they coached before me, it’s just things like that. They have coached guys like me already, so I know how I will get developed.”
As expected, the aforementioned Gonzales serves as Hawkins’ primary recruiter at Florida.
“It’s been good. I’ve been talking to him a lot lately,” Hawkins said. “He actually came to the school not too long ago and I chopped it up with him on the phone after.”
When speaking with Napier’s staff, one familiar name that is often mentioned is Percy Harvin. No one is saying Hawkins is going to be an All-American like Harvin, but the playmakers do boast similar skill sets in the slot.
“Just how explosive it is,” Hawkins said of what he likes about UF’s offense. “I was in the meeting rooms and liked how they get the guys the ball in space. I liked what I saw, so I’m definitely considering them.”
The Gators are soaring with Jerrae Hawkins
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Nittany Lions are trending with odds of 41.3 percent. The Wolverines and Gators check in with percentages of 20.9 and 17.9, respectively.
However, according to the blue-chip prospect, the Gators are higher than No. 3 on his list.
“I’ll say top two right now,” Hawkins said.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Hawkins is the No. 32 wide receiver and No. 183 prospect overall.
During the 2022 season, Hawkins posted 67 catches for 1,173 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also reports times of 10.44 and 21.4 in the 100M and 200M, respectively.
