Miami and Texas A&M both had forgettable 5-7 seasons in 2022, a season in which the two programs faced off head to head. Both enter 2023 with a considerable degree of optimism, though, hoping to turn things around.
Both will get a one-game tune-up before the back end of the home-and-home series between Miami and Texas A&M takes place in Coral Gables, Fla., on Sept. 9.
And for Aggies fans wanting to attend, there’s now a significantly more convenient way to get there.
According to Andy Slater of The Andy Slater Show, a local Miami expert, American Airlines is adding a non-stop flight from College Station to Miami to shuttle fans to and from the game.
The non-stop flight will depart College Station on Sept. 8, before making a return trip on Sept. 10. It’ll be about a two-and-a-half hour flight, cutting down on the travel time by more than half a day versus driving.
A drive from College Station to Miami would cover about 1,280 miles, taking an estimated 19-and-a-half hours. Suffice it to say, that’s tough for any fan looking to attend the Miami – Texas A&M game without needing to take off a very significant chunk of time off at work.
As far as the matchup on the field goes, Miami will be looking to avenge a 17-9 loss to the Aggies.
Texas A&M was coming off a stunning loss to Appalachian State in last year’s game when it faced Miami, managing to briefly bounce back before the season really fell apart due to injuries, a stagnant offense and a revolving door at quarterback.
Now the Aggies are rolling with quarterback Conner Weigman, a more experienced offensive line and an offense that returns all but two starters from last season.
Miami, meanwhile, also went 5-7 in coach Mario Cristobal‘s first season in charge.
Like Texas A&M, the Hurricanes played three different quarterbacks as a result of injuries. But star quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is back for 2023 after recovering from a shoulder injury.
The ‘Canes will be counting on him to help stabilize things and get into gear in the Cristobal era.
Thanks to American Airlines, visiting Texas A&M fans can now make the trip a little bit easier, with a non-stop flight from College Station to Miami.
