The Wolfpacker War Room: NC State official visit and camp intel

Official visit season is here. Recruiting enthusiasts rejoice. NC State will not host any official visitors this weekend, instead focusing its time and energy on an absolutely loaded June 1 summer camp with more than 300 expected attendees.

The Wolfpack is scheduled to welcome a handful of heavily recruited prospects to Raleigh Saturday. Some will be there to camp, while others will spend a the day on campus for an unofficial visit. Four-star rising junior edge rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes is the headlining member of that group.

While NC State’s recruiting efforts are centered around that camp, quite a few future official visitors will spend their weekends at other schools.

TheWolfpacker.com divided this week’s recruiting War Room into three parts— Scoops on tomorrow’s expected camp visitors, a breakdown of where NC State’s recruiting targets are visiting this week and some general recruiting intel.

NC State football recruiting updates

Four-star ’25 safety Jontae Gilbert

Gilbert dropped his top seven Friday. NC State, South Carolina, Michigan, Louisville, Memphis, UCF and Georgia State all made the cut.

Per On3’s Chad Simmons, the Pack, Gamecocks and Cardinals have started to separate into a top tier for the nation’s No. 131 prospect. NC State is recruiting Gilbert to play cornerback, and I like where the program stands. If he leaves each of his summer visits uncommitted, then the Pack should be in a good spot. Simmons reported the defensive back plans on making his commitment after his Sept. 27 official visit in Raleigh.

Michigan could be a school to keep a close eye on here. The Wolverines offered this week and are expected to host him at some point. NC State is his only fall official visit for now.

Three-star ’25 tight end Mike Tyler

Tyler did not include NC State in his top six, but the Wolfpack continued to show consistent love and interest. That led to the tight end locking in an official visit with the program. He’s spending this weekend at West Virginia, and South Carolina and LSU are also schools to keep an eye on here. It’s a positive sign that the top priority tight end prospect will be on campus, but NC State remains a long shot in his recruitment going into this visit.

Three-star ’25 running back Kentrell Rinehart

NC State established itself as one of of Rinehart’s top schools in March, and he locked in a June 21-23 official visit with the program. His recruitment began to trend towards the Pack as he focused on an official visit schedule that also included Minnesota, Iowa and Syracuse.

Missouri offered the Wolfpack’s No. 1 running back target this week. More prestigious offers were always going to come for Rinehart. The Pack knew this and prepared accordingly.

When running backs coach Todd Goebbel visited his school this spring, he emphasized that Rinehart is the program’s No. 1 priority. The Wolfpack assistant also stressed that nothing is going to change, regardless of the offers he picks up later in the cycle. NC State has his back.

He plans on visiting Missouri but, as long as the Pack keeps its June 21 visit date going into a July 5 commitment, then the program should be able to generate quite a bit of momentum before his decision.

Three-star ’25 wide receiver Arrion Concepcion

Concepcion is not visiting Virginia Tech this weekend as he originally planned to. The wide receiver, ranked No. 24 in North Carolina’s class, continues to build upon his familial bonds with the Wolfpack. He’ll be back on campus June 21-23, and NC State will be the team to beat unless something changes drastically.

’25 tight end Preston Douglas

Douglas took a patient approach to his recruitment after picking up his first offers in late-January. He began to lock in official visits this month and scheduled trips with NC State June 14-16 and South Carolina June 7-9. Keep a close eye on the Gamecocks here. The Pack was his first Power Four offer. Both programs hosted him on unofficial visits earlier this spring. South Carolina and NC State are competing for both Douglas and Tyler this cycle.

’25 defensive lineman Makhi Williams-Lee

Williams-Lee’s recruitment continued to surge this week, and he picked up an offer from Oklahoma. He replaced Mississippi State with the Sooners for June 14-16 on his official visit schedule. NC State established itself as the trending team with the versatile lineman over the past month. The Wolfpack will host him June 7-9, and the Pack needs to make a significant impression to hold off the SEC momentum from Oklahoma. He plans on making a decision in July. Clemson and Georgia will also host Williams-Lee for camps this summer, and he has an official visit set with Texas Tech for June 21-23.

’25 tight end Jamar Browder

Browder locked in a June 7-9 official visit with NC State after the staff ramped up its interest in the 6-5 wide receiver from Florida. The Pack is either his No. 1 or No. 2 school right now, he told TheWolfpacker.com. Georgia Tech and Indiana area also in contention here. Quality control coach Gavin Locklear is leading Browder’s recruitment right now. He has started to emerge as a recruiting star for the Wolfpack, and he’s taking on more responsibility as a result. Locklear was one of three NC State coaches to visit the wide receiver this spring.

’25 athlate Jordan Crim

Crim picked up an offer from NC State earlier this month. The 6-1 Camden (S.C.) High defensive back prospect also holds offers Duke and Georgia Tech. He’s in the process of scheduling an official visit with the Wolfpack.
