Five-star USC commit arrives to UGA for crucial official visit

There are major names coming to Athens over the course of this official visit season, but there may be none bigger for the Bulldogs than five-star Southern California defensive line commit Justus Terry. The standout senior is confirmed to be on campus with Georgia via DawgsHQ.

A 6-foot-5, 275 pound game wrecker from Manchester, Georgia’s Manchester High School, Terry flipped his commitment from Georgia to the Trojans in late March. He had previously pledged to the Bulldogs in January of 2023.

The No. 8 prospect in the country for the Class of 2025, Terry’s decision to change course in his recruitment based on wanting to see more beyond the Peach State.

“Coming from a small town I wanted to expand my life as much as possible, and I felt like USC is the right place to do that,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons of the decision to flip. “They have the No. 1 businesses school in the country, and I want to study business entrepreneurship.”

Terry has been clear that, however, that the Bulldogs are still a major player in his recruitment and have changed their approach little since his decision to switch course.

“They’re still coming hard,” Terry said to DawgsHQ’s Jeremy Johnson in April. “Georgia is still on the radar obviously at number two. It was good seeing everyone again. It was all love, it’s never a dull moment…I still feel the same about Georgia; nothing ever changed.”

Despite the flip, there remains a pervasive feeling behind the scenes which suggests that this recruitment may compare favorably to that of KJ Bolden’s down the line, and the Bulldogs will certainly be hoping that is the case.

Scouting Report on Justus Terry

“Tremendous frame and build for an interior defensive line prospect. Stands in at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds with excellent weight distribution throughout his frame. Wins with first step and lateral quickness, has rare get off and leverage for a player of his stature. Quality bend and ability to change direction, comfortable in space. Uses his length to initiate contact consistently and sheds blockers with ease. Able to anchor and two-gap if asked to in run support. Will need to continue to fill out and gain functional play strength at the next level. Should be able to carry an extra 20-30 pounds on his frame. High upside prospect who will be in consideration for a first round selection in the NFL Draft.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, on Justus Terry
