Ohio State and Brian Hartline are battling for Five-Star Plus+ Dakorien Moore

Ohio State and Brian Hartline are battling for Five-Star Plus+ Dakorien Moore

NASHVILLE — Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline has established a standard on the recruiting trail that the Buckeyes be in the mix for the No. 1 wide receiver in the country every cycle. The 2025 cycle is no exception and five-Star Plus+ Duncanville (Texas) wide receiver Dakorien Moore has all of Hartline’s attention.

Moore, the No. 3 overall prospect in the On300, decommitted from LSU on May 16 but the Buckeyes had been steadily working to flip from the Tigers for a few months after being a non-factor for him early in his recruitment.

“Obviously, when I first started my recruitment, I wasn’t really talking about Ohio State that much,” Moore told Lettermen Row. “I saw that they produce some of the best receivers but I saw that other schools also produce, you know, a good number of wide receivers. So that didn’t play, you know, a big factor but after seeing how well they take care of the athletes, the relationship that they have off the field, and just how they set their athletes up, you know, off the field and after football, it just stood out to me.”

“And the culture is a real big culture. A Big fan base, I think the number one fan base in the nation, actually. So that’s a lot of factors that play into that.”

With the track record that Hartline has built both on the field as a receivers coach and off the field as a recruiter, he is prone to being negatively recruited against and Moore experienced that. The more he has gotten to know Hartline, however, the more he sees why he has been successful.

“Oh, it’s coming along good. Coach Hartline hits me up almost every day. We’re developing a good relationship. I was hearing a lot of stuff about I was doing a lot of stuff about how he acts, the type of person he is and stuff like that, but I ain’t the type to judge nobody off other people’s opinions. So I have to see it for myself and I’m starting to grow on him.”

Moore visited Columbus twice this spring, once with his trainer and once with his mother, and both trips were very informative about everything Ohio State has to offer.

“My first visit I went with my trainer, David Robinson, we really just saw practice, saw around the facility, it wasn’t too much. Got to know more of the football aspect, met with the players and stuff like that. When I went with my mom we saw more outside of the facility, you know, we seen around campus, saw some food spots and got more until the personnel point to where they showed her everything outside of football you know, because she don’t really understand too much of football she leaves me up to that. They showed her everything that they can do outside of football, how they can set me up outside of football and stuff like that. So she really liked that and, you know, moms play a big factor in a lot of things. So once I saw that she was okay with it. It just went off from there.”

Ohio State quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair has also started building a relationship with Moore.

“I got to know him my first time going down to Ohio State. I’ve seen him, I didn’t really know him at all actually before then but after they told me like he was the quarterback that they got to commit and stuff like that. I saw him throwing when he was out in Vegas for a Nike event and saw him throwing and stuff like that. I was like ‘Yeah, he is nice’ and then ever since Ohio State told him that I was on the radar it’s been on ever since.”

Moore has also known Ohio State cornerback commit Devin Sanchez for years and the two like the idea of competing against each other every day in Columbus.

“Me and Devin have been building a relationship since I would say the end of our freshman year going into sophomore year. Being one of the top two ranked players coming out of Texas and then me playing wide receiver and Devin corner, people have always tried to make us rivals, tried to make us go against each other, wanted us to talk bad about each other stuff like that but me and him built a relationship outside of that. We want to go against each other, we want to practice against each other and stuff like that. We talked about it already since before he committed to Ohio State that we were particularly going to go to the same school so after he committed to Ohio State it was just another reason that I would want to go to Ohio State.”

Moore will take his official visit to Ohio State this weekend from May 31-June 2 then head to LSU, Texas and Oregon for official visits the rest of the month.
