5-star DL David Stone discusses recent visit with the Miami Hurricanes: “I really enjoyed it and have never done anything like that”
BRADENTON – For the third time this spring, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone made his way to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit with the Miami Hurricanes last weekend, but this one may have been the most impactful trip to South Florida thus far.
Joined by his fellow IMG teammates, the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking got to see a side of Miami that he had not seen before after spending time on campus and at head coach Mario Cristobal’s home.
“This weekend was just great,” Stone told CaneSport after IMH’s spring game Wednesday night. “I really enjoyed it and have never done anything like that. Spending time with them in their environment was great to see how things are outside of football because it’s so much bigger than that. I got a really good feel for that from Miami.”
While Miami’s success recruiting at IMG Academy in the 2023 cycle is well documented, they have yet to land a commitment from an Ascender just yet in the 2024 class. But Stone and his teammates have discussed the possibility of joining forces at The U.
“That’s been a big topic in our rooms anytime we’re all together,” Stone said. “We’ve been through so much together, and we’re brothers. Our relationship is A1. That group (2023) that went to Miami was good, but I feel like our bond with the 2024 class is even stronger.”
Along with Stone and his IMG teammates, Miami’s coaching staff has also teased the idea.
“Yes, of course,” Stone said. “They love the pipeline, so let’s keep it going.”
With his third visit to Miami in the books nearly a week removed, Stone has had time to reflect on the visit. When asked what his biggest takeaway from it all was, Stone said that being able to see the ins and outs of the program, which is extremely important in his recruitment, was what was most significant.
“I got to see a lot of stuff that is behind the scenes and how things are run outside of football,” Stone said. “It was something that I really needed to see, and I feel like when my mom gets to see something like that, she’ll fall in love with the place even more.”
CaneSport’s take
After some speculated that Miami had lost steam on the recruiting trail with Stone, the Hurricanes have picked up right where they left off. Getting Stone on campus again was a great move by Miami, and it seems as if it left a lasting impression on the elite pass rusher. With Stone eying a commitment before his senior season and his official visits locked in for July, if the Hurricanes can secure an OV (which they most likely should) and are able to top this recent visit, we like where Miami stands in the David Stone race.
