The Ole Miss Spirit held its weekly, message-board-exclusive AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Wednesday, with topics ranging from Michigan State transfer wide receiver Keon Coleman spurning Ole Miss for Florida State to other recruiting rumors and much, much more.
Any and all subscribers are welcome and encouraged to chime in throughout an AMA day. Not a member? Join today! Our next question-and-answer session will be held next week.
But until then, and for the uninitiated, here are some of the highlights.
MikeHiltonFan asked …
What’s the word on Keon Coleman?
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Florida State’s collective thinks they’ve got him. Ole Miss offered pretty much the exact same NIL dollars while he was on his visit, but I’d heard head coach Lane Kiffin was willing to go up in number, but only so far, in an effort to secure him. However, Kiffin has been strict to the “cap” he’s set in his head and the momentum has shifted. So, I don’t know anymore.
I thought Coleman would have been in the boat now if it was Ole Miss. But that could simply be my own paranoia. It was all trending Ole Miss’ way both publicly and behind the scenes late last week, but it’s still not done and Florida State, which was seemingly out of it, is back in. At worst, the Seminoles are now the co-favorite with Ole Miss. Remember, the Seminoles thought Coleman was only going to visit them in the first place.
TL;DR All appeared to be falling into place once he cancelled the Texas A&M visit. We knew that cancellation was coming. He had made it very clear through back channels he wanted to play at Ole Miss if the NIL number was right. And still we wait.
The recent trend lines haven’t been encouraging. We’ll see, I guess.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Coleman announced for Florida State over Ole Miss on social media Wednesday afternoon.

rebelmojorising1 asked …
Good morning, Ben! What’s your feeling on our chances with the DL (Stephon) Wynn and James Madison edge?
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Much better shot with Wynn than (Isaac) Ukwu, IMO.
RaveReb asked …
If you could pair any Ole Miss offense with the 2014 defense which would it be?
My first thought was 2020 until I thought about the Covid year hampering defenses. 2015 seems obvious but would have been cool to see the 2018 offense with the 2014 defense
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Either 2008 or 2016.
Grovecrew asked …
Ben, how surprised was basketball’s staff at Andrew Taylor’s decision? Did he visit us unofficially then State officially? If so why? Many thanks
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Not particularly. They’re going to add another point guard, but with Austin Nunez in the boat and more opportunity and pathway to starting for Andrew Taylor at Mississippi State, it’s not all that hard to figure out why he ended up a Bulldog.
OBREBEL65 asked …
Ben, what is your take on Patrick Spencer, the P who just backed out if his NLI?
Did (Ole Miss) encourage him to do so, going hard in the portal? Or did he decide after the meltdown this year he wanted to look elsewhere? Mixed reviews on him I guess. Perfect Game has him as the No. 2 pitcher and No. 9 overall in Mississippi. Yet, he was not one of the higher rated signees
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Sides mutually agreed to part ways after Ole Miss recently went to see him pitch twice.

OBREBEL65 asked …
Ben, where do things stand with Trey Woodbury?
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): He’s one we’re monitoring right now. Ole Miss assistant Al Pinkins mentioned Monday the Rebels are going to add at least another guard (preferably a point) before all is said and done, and he sounded as if something could happen relatively soon.
Woodbury (a guard, if more of a two, from Utah Valley, for those who don’t know) is one they’ve been in recent contact with. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game last season. Woodbury shot 45 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three (67 for 169). He was an All-WAC First Team selection.
GrownManReb asked …
Who would win a MMA style fight? Robert Nkemdiche or Laremy Tunsil
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Rob. Laremy has the arm length and is the one of the most gifted athletes I’ve ever laid eyes on. But MMA fighting, at its core, is a lot about rage, and Laremy just isn’t like that. Meanwhile, I’ve seen Rob do vicious slam poetry about his dad right to his dad’s face. That’s some deep-rooted resentment.
RebelBagman asked …
Prediction: Next football recruit to pop from high school ranks
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): I would have predicted Patrick Broomfield because we knew that was coming and had been reporting as much. So, I guess I’ll go Joseph Cryer.
Vhreb asked …
From this day forward, who is here the longest: Kiffin, Bianco, or Beard?
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): That’s such a good question.
Kiffin.
Iamarooski asked …
Any chance Kiffin might be holding the line on the Coleman NIL number because he thinks we could get Franklin from UTSA for less NIL dollars and that freed up money could be re-purposed to get us over the hump on both Ukwu and Wynn?
BEN GARRETT (SpiritBen): Nah, I don’t think so. I do think Ole Miss will quickly pivot to Franklin if the Rebels don’t get Coleman, though.
