3-star TE Decker DeGraaf looking nationally for the right school

3-star TE Decker DeGraaf looking nationally for the right school

Glendora (Calif.) three-star tight end Decker DeGraaf is currently open in his recruitment. However, multiple schools are standing out to him.

One of them is Washington, who is getting an official visit from DeGraaf on the weekend of June 24. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound recruit communicates with multiple Huskies staffers, including head coach Kalen DeBoer and tight ends coach Nick Sheridan.

“They’re all super personal with me and care about me and my family,” DeGraaf said. “You can really tell they care about me as a person and I really appreciate that. What they did last year and what they’re going to do this year, they just have a huge upside. I’m super excited to see what they do this year.”

DeGraaf, who previously visited Washington for a Junior Day, received his second offer from the Huskies in April 2022. He is excited to return to Seattle and meet with multiple Huskies signees and commits, including Folsom (Calif.) four-star quarterback Austin Mack.

Multiple programs hosted DeGraaf in March, including Arizona, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas. He already knows what is important to him in a school.

“It’s definitely a mix of feeling it in your gut that it’s the right place and when you’re up there, it just feels natural,” said Degraaf, On3’s No. 41 tight end and the No. 64 player in California. “Also, what matters is a program that is super personal with its staff and players and has a really tight brotherhood. Also, I am interested in a program that develops its players and gets them to the main goal, which is the NFL and having a good season and winning championships.”

DeGraaf is interested in schools across the country

Michigan is another school that has impressed DeGraaf. Even though he does not have an offer from the Wolverines, the three-star enjoyed his time in Ann Arbor on March 11 and could “see myself playing on that field at the Big House.”

DeGraaf shared that Michigan’s up-to-date facilities quickly caught his attention. He also enjoyed speaking with head coach Jim Harbaugh.

“We had a really good talk for probably an hour-and-a-half about football and life and family,” DeGraaf said. “He had an amazing career, so it was really fun sitting down with him. Usually, you don’t get to spend that much time with the head coach. He was a really good guy, which really stuck out to me.”

Meanwhile, Utah is pushing hard for DeGraaf, who was offered by the Utes a few months ago. Utah’s entire staff FaceTimes weekly with the California native.

“They’re amazing with the tight ends and everyone knows that,” said DeGraaf, who visited the Utes this month. “Winning back-to-back Pac-12 championships is super impressive, so they’re definitely high on my radar and I really like the staff.”

Some of the schools to recently offer DeGraaf include Arkansas, Miami and Michigan State. He currently has interest in all three programs.

“I could see myself playing at all of those schools,” DeGraaf said. “I’m planning on getting out to Michigan State, Miami and Arkansas this spring, if not the summer. I really want to get out there and I really want to get the vibe… and see if they could see me there and if I could see myself there.”

DeGraaf has locked in an official visit with Michigan State for June 16-18.
