Malik Clark previews upcoming South Carolina official visit
Rock Hill (S.C.) class of 2025 four-star wide receiver Malik Clark, a priority South Carolina football target, has three summer official visits set and then it will soon be decision time.
The 6-foot-2.5, 180-pounder will take officials to South Carolina (May 31), North Carolina (June 7), and N.C. State (June 21). As of right now, that’s it, though Florida State has been pushing to get added to the OV list and UGA could host him on an unofficial on May 30.
“Probably just getting to know the people better, getting to see the place, getting to get around the players,” Clark said of what he’ll be looking for on the officials. “Probably asking questions like, what they can do to better me, like the flaws they see in my game and what they gonna do to help me fix those flaws, and how they gonna help me take advantage of the gifts that I do have and get me to the next level.”
The Gamecocks are first up with Clark and will host him on campus among a dozen or so other prospects this upcoming weekend.
“I mean, of course they’re the home team, so it’s right down the road (and) that’s nice,” he said of the Gamecocks. “I like Coach (Shane) Beamer. He’s a great dude. I like the production of the receivers that they put into the league. They put in like 12 in the last five, six years, so I like the way they get receivers to the league. I like the way they use their receivers, like they used Xavier Legette last year.”
Mike Furrey joined the South Carolina staff as receivers coach in late February and has quickly made sure Clark knows he’s a priority. He was in Rock Hill on Tuesday to meet in person with the big-play receiver.
“He’s good people. I like him. I like what he stands for. I like him as a person. I like him as a coach,” Clark said. “I got to see him coach his wide receivers at the spring practice that we went to like a month ago. I liked how he coached his receivers. I like the drills that he did. I like how he’s got them rolling through the depth chart, things like that.”
The message? It’s been all about development.
“That he can break me down and develop me into the best receiver that I can be and get me ready not to just play four years in college but 10 years in the league,” Clark said.
After South Carolina, Clark will head to UNC the next week, a program that has been the perceived favorite for some time.
“It would probably just be Coach (Lonnie) Galloway and his belief in me, like I said,” Clark said of what stands out about North Carolina. “Like he believes in my ability and he believes that he’s the best person to exploit my abilities and put it on display for everybody.”
Finally, N.C. State will get an official on June 14.
“I like Coach Joker (Phillips); He’s a great dude,” Clark said. “I like that freshman production, like they play early and they succeed. That’s always going to be great for any high school kid looking for a college.”
Then it will be decision time.
Clark, the nation’s No. 36 wide receiver according to the On3 Industry Ranking, says he’s planning to make his decision as early as mid-July and definitely before his senior season begins.
“Just a spot that’s best for me, a spot that can help me improve as a man, a spot that can help improve me to the wide receiver that I need to be to get to the NFL and have a successful NFL career,” Clark said.
