Jaxson Dart reportedly set to represent Ole Miss at next month’s Manning Passing Academy
After missing out last year due to an injury Ole Miss will be represented at this Summer’s Manning Passing Academy according to reports.
Jaxson Dart will be among the high-profile counselors taking part in the annual quarterback camp put on by Archie, Eli, Peyton and Cooper Manning. The camp takes place on the campus of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana from June 27-30.
Garland Gillen of FOX8 out of New Orleans reported the early list of quarterbacks on Friday who are set to be part of this year’s camp. The list consists of 10 quarterbacks from nine Southeastern Conference teams. League newcomer Texas will have starter Quinn Ewers and backup Arch Manning in attendance.
Other quarterbacks listed include Georgia’s Carson Beck, Missouri’s Brady Cook, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, Florida’s Graham Mertz, Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold and Mississippi State’s Blake Shapen.
A who’s who of college quarterback talent and the expect list of contender’s out of the SEC for this year’s Heisman Trophy. Dart is firmly in the mix as a candidate for college football’s highest honor and will get his campaign started by helping teach some of the future college quarterbacks a thing or two.
Dart was on the list for camp counselors last year but backed out due to injuries and was not able to attend.
The relationship between Dart and Eli Manning has grown, including a Grove Collective event the pair headlined earlier this month.
Manning, a former Heisman Trophy finalist, spoke highly of Dart at last year’s camp and doubled down on those comments at this month’s event.
Eli event went as far as to voice his support to be knocked off the top of some Ole Miss records by the third-year Rebel starter.
“I’m rooting for him to break, he’s probably broken all my records, I want him to break all of them,” Manning said during the Grove Collective event. “I want him to go have a big year and go get that SEC Championship.”
Since Manning’s tenure as the Ole Miss signal caller the program’s opportunity at a SEC title or a shot at the national championship has been few and far between. The Rebels last won the SEC West crown in a tie with LSU but lost out on going to Atlanta due the Tigers winning the head to head tiebreaker.
The Rebels will not be contending for a division title this year as the East and West Divisions are gone and it is now a 16-team race for the regular season SEC title. The top two teams in the standings will advance to Atlanta to play in the SEC Championship game in December.
Dart is a big reason why Ole Miss is a popular favorite to contend for the conference title and make the College Football Playoff field for a shot at the national championship.
Those who are starting to release their early lists for Heisman Contenders, including On3’s J.D. PicKell, are including Dart without hesitation.
“I really think Jaxson Dart’s going to tear it up,” PicKell said Thursday. “Like, if you told me I need to give you the Heisman Trophy finalists for next season, otherwise bad things were going to happen, Jaxson Dart would be on my list.”
Dart is currently in a three-way tie for the fifth best odds to win the Heisman at +1500, according to Fan Duel. He is tied with Milroe and Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
