2025 Ole Miss football recruiting targets: The Cornerbacks

2025 Ole Miss football recruiting targets: The Cornerbacks

As we continue our new series, OMSpirit will take a look at each position for the 2025 class and give you an early look at the names to know. Sure, it’s only May but hey, recruiting never stops. You all know this. So without further ado, let’s get into the eighth installment of this new series with a look at the cornerback position and who Ole Miss is targeting.

4-star Cortez Thomas

School: Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County Central
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 256
Status: Not committed

Mississippi State has long been the declared leader inside the state of Mississippi. But, every time I speak with Thomas, he raves about Lane Kiffin, Pete Golding and new cornerbacks coach, Bryan Brown. He is set to officially visit Starkville as well as Kentucky, but I would be shocked if he doesn’t also trip to Ole Miss. Thomas is wanting to make a decision in the summer.

“Everything with Ole Miss has been pretty good. They let me know they can get me to the next level where I can have a successful career,” Thomas said. “They plan on getting me down there more often, too. I will definitely go down there again soon.”

3-star Andrew Purcell

School: Enterprise (Ala.) High
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 557
Status: Not committed

Ole Miss currently has a slight lead over Miami and the Rebel staff has recently been to see him this month. Purcell was in Oxford, Miss., last month and should return for an official visit at some point this summer. Auburn and Georgia are also in the mix for the 5-foot-11, 185 pound prospect.

3-star Michael Igbinoghene

School: Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 586
Status: Not committed

Igbinoghene has an official visit scheduled to Vanderbilt this summer, but also has other suitors. Arkansas, Florida State, Ole Miss and UCF are among the others in pursuit. At 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, his athleticism makes him a candidate for a nickel corner in the Ole Miss system. Igbinoghene is a two-time state champion triple jumper, ran a 4.51 and jumped 33’3″ at the Under Armour Next Camp and has good ball skills when in phase.

3-star Mark Manfred

School: Marietta (Ga.) Sprayberry
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 587
Status: Not committed

Manfred is another target on Ole Miss’ board who has recently piqued the staff’s interest. Pete Golding extended the offer and has been in contact this spring. He is the cousin of former Miami quarterback, Jacory Harris, so the Canes are in this one, too. Clemson and Southern Cal are also in this battle with Ole Miss.

3-star Major Preston

School: Hopewell (Va.) IMG Academy
On3 Industry Ranking: N/A
Status: Not committed

Preston included Ole Miss in his recent top schools list. His Top 6 also includes Oklahoma, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Florida and Colorado. Virginia Tech is currently trending, per Preston’s On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Texas, Michigan, Penn State and Syracuse have also extended offers to the rising senior recruit. As a junior, he made 18 tackles in four games for the Ascenders.

Preston recently told On3’s Chad Simmons he will be announcing his commitment July 1.
