WBB Recruiting Notes: LSU hits Houston for Nike EYBL event
Kim Mulkey was swarmed with fans and kids as she made her way through the Nike EYBL courts over the weekend in Houston, Texas. Her and LSU assistant coach Gary Redus were in attendance to watch LSU commit Bella Hines and several of the top 2025 and 2026 prospects in the country as they continue the process of locking in on top prospects as they head into the summer.
Here’s everything to know from the weekend in Houston and what it means for the Tigers’ 2025 class.
Aaliyah Chavez lights it up
The best player in the nation continues to show out on the Nike EYBL circuit. She was the best player this weekend in Houston and her Cy Fair Elite team remains undefeated after an 85-78 win over Philly Rise, one of the best teams in the field 85-78. Chavez had 42 points and six rebounds on 13 of 20 shooting and elevates her game when she faces top competition. There’s no one in the country that can stop her. She had 27, 27, and 28 points in her other three games over the weekend.
With Kim Mulkey and Gary Redus both in attendance over the weekend in Houston, LSU is continuing to push hard, but of course has plenty of competition. Along with LSU, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Tennessee have all been in constant contact as well. LSU will be looking to get her on campus in the fall for an official visit. There could also be an unofficial visit on the way in the coming weeks as well to watch for.
Bella Hines with strong outings
The LSU commit was a consistent No. 2 option on Cy Fair Elite alongside Chavez this weekend, scoring in double figures in all four games with 16, 16, 14, and 13 points. Her defense also stood out and is another positive when scouting her game and projecting to the future.
With Mulkey and Redus in attendance, the relationship between the two sides continues to grow as Hines continues to show why she’s a top 25 player in the nation.
Kim Mulkey adds a new target to LSU’s board
LSU’s board for 2025 has a new name: Ayla McDowell. The No. 20 player in the class also plays for Cy Fair Elite and Mulkey was extremely impressed with her game. Listed as a 6-foot-2 wing, McDowell is from Houston and is another player the Tigers will try to host in the fall on an official visit.

2026s begin to emerge
I wanted to pass along some 2026 standouts that I had heard from sources, including Trinity Jones and Jacy Abii, the No. 4 and 5 players in the class, who both took unofficial visits to LSU last year.
Chamiah Francis, Olivia Vukosa, Olivia Edwards, and Kelsi Andrews are four more names LSU is keeping tabs on early on in the process.
