Hurricanes coach Jason Taylor offers 4-star 2025 DL Kamauryn Morgan: ‘A a lot of great football players came from Miami’

Miami is continuing to hand out offers to 2025 and 2026 prospects during the evaluation period, including a recent offer to elite Red Oak (Tx.) 2025 defensive lineman Kamauryn Morgan.

Morgan, the No. 171 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and a four-star prospect, added Miami to his list of elite programs to offer him along with Georgia, Texas, Florida and Penn State, among others. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists SMU as the early leader for the 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive lineman ahead of Baylor, Texas A&M and Georgia.

“I was in class and my recruiting coach called me and said he just talked to (co-defensive line) coach (Jason) Taylor, and said he wanted to offer me a scholarship,” Morgan said. “I was very excited because I’ve been wanting to leave Texas and explore other options.”

Morgan, who is also the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 20 defensive lineman in the class, has more than a dozen offers already and an On3 NIL Valuation of $50k. The Hurricanes quickly caught his attention, too, after Taylor extended the offer.

“(It’s) the quality of classes, opportunities, diversity, the quality and success of the football team,” Morgan said when asked about his interest in Miami. “(It’s) the great coaching and mentorship I will be able to receive, and a lot of great football players came from Miami.”

Morgan’s most interested programs have largely been Texas schools to this point including Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU and Texas, although other programs are appearing on the RPM as well. Inside Texas reported the Longhorns are making Red Oak a priority stop and that he grew up a Texas fan.

CaneSport’s Take

Taylor’s addition to Miami’s staff may have quietly been one of the country’s biggest coaching additions of the offseason from a recruiting standpoint (excluding coordinators). The Hall-of-Fame edge rusher and co-defensive line coach has given the Hurricanes instant credibility with nearly every defensive line prospect they’ve pursued, and it’ll give them a chance again with prospects like Morgan.

We’ve seen 2024 five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott go from a Notre Dame favorite to a Miami favorite thanks in large part to Taylor’s recruiting efforts, and he gave the Canes a real shot with five-star defensive lineman David Stone, although momentum has since shifted back to Oklahoma.

Miami also has an excellent shot to land four-star EDGE Marquise Lightfoot thanks to Taylor, who flew to Chicago to check up on Scott and Lightfoot recently along with defensive coordinator Lance Guidry. Expect Taylor to continue to have substantial impact in the 2025 class too.
