Mason Posa on Oregon: ‘I really think they can be the next dynasty’
2025 Albuquerque (N.M.) linebacker Mason Posa is one of the better defenders in the Western region this cycle and has been a name on Oregon’s radar. ScoopDuck was able to catch up with Posa as he heads into official visits later this month.
Oregon’s recruitment on Posa has had a personal touch thanks to Head Coach Dan Lanning hitting the recruiting trail. The coaches are part of what makes Oregon a top destination for the New Mexico produt.
“I think the coaches for sure really stand out,” Posa said. “Especially Coach Lanning coming out to Albuquerque. That was really big to me. It made me feel like they really want me because he’s the only head coach to come down to Albuquerque. I know Oregon recruits top guys and I feel like Coach Lanning coming down makes me feel like I’m one of their biggest priorities.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound backer visited Oregon earlier this spring and liked what he saw from the Ducks.
“I took a visit up there in March and I loved the facilities there they were gorgeous. And then I got to hang out with some of the players and they were really cool and I felt a really good connection with them.”
Posa has developed a strong connection with Lanning and the two even have a few things in common off the field.
“It’s been pretty good,” he said of connecting with Lanning. “We both drive Broncos which we talked about a little bit. He got to check out my Bronco when he was down here. We just hit it off really the first time we talked to each other.”
Oregon has drawn a lot of attention for its success both on the field and on the recruiting trail. Posa sees the trajectory the Ducks are on and sees big things in the program’s future.
“I feel like they’re gonna head into a dynasty like Alabama was. “I feel like they’re recruiting the right guys and the coaches there, they know what they’re doing. I feel like they’re gonna be really good for a while and I really think they can be the next dynasty for sure.”
Linebackers Coach Brian Michalowksi hit the road to see Posa last week and the two are building are continuing to build a relationship.
“Me and him have a really good connection,” Posa said. “He came down here also with Coach Lanning and he really hits it off good with my parents. He’s a family guy, I feel like we really connect pretty well. I just feel like the conversations we’ve had and the position he sees me at really fits my style of play.”
Next up for Posa is the start of his official visits, which will take him out to Big Ten country.
“I have Wisconsin on the 31st-1st (May-June). Oregon (June) 7-9 and Texas A&M 14-16. I haven’t confirmed Texas A&M one.”
A decision isn’t far off for the state champion.
“I think I’m gonna commit after my OVs, so probably around June 21.”
