Cameron Strong sees fit at NC State going into official visit

Cameron Strong has watched a steady stream of schools pass through Anderson (S.C.) T L Hanna High’s halls this spring. Some programs, like NC State, have been building relationships with him for months, while other new programs are trying to enter the picture.

The Wolfpack offered him last fall, hosted him on a pair of game days and later welcomed him back to campus in January for another unofficial visit. He is a top priority cornerback for the program, and NC State is one of the three schools separating from the rest of Strong’s recruitment.

West Virginia, Georgia Tech and the Wolfpack are all showing the most consistent, strong interest in the 6-1, 170-pound defensive back. Duke previously made his top four but is not included on his official visit schedule.

On the field, he is emerging into a vocal leadership role. He is also preparing for a busy summer official visit schedule that includes trips to West Virginia (May 31), NC State (June 7) and Georgia Tech (June 14).

His bond with the Wolfpack, particularly cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell, remains extremely strong.

“It’s been a steady relationship with me and coach Mitchell,” Strong told TheWolfpacker.com. “He checks on me and the family every chance he’s able to, and then he was down here this spring as well.”

Mitchell visited T L Hanna high recently to continue building their connection. In a little over two weeks, the cornerback will be back on campus for his official.

Strong said the Wolfpack assistant is excited to host him on campus for the fourth time in the past year. That trip is the next step in strengthening his connection with the program.

“Going down there, connecting and just building stronger relationships while I’m down there,” Strong said.

The cornerback is already pretty familiar with the football program after watching the program defeat UNC and Marshall last fall. During his official visit, he wants to take a closer look at campus because his previous visits were mostly limited to the athletic facilities.

Sophomore cornerback Brandon Cisse, who is also from South Carolina, and other current members of the program have already reached out to Strong, so he’ll have the chance to get to bond with them as well.

“They want me to come there,” Strong said. “I’ve talked to them. They told me it’s a good place to go to.”

Strong sees himself fitting into NC State’s defense “very well.” The Pack’s scheme is similar to his high school’s system. NC State sees him potentially playing multiple spots in the program’s secondary, which the defensive back believes he can do as well.

Going into official visits, the Wolfpack has continued to strengthen its standing with Strong.

“It’s kind of in the air right now,” Strong said. “Of course, they’re in my top schools, so they’re in a good spot right now.”
