Florida Gators QB board overview

Florida Gators QB board overview

After signing touted 5-star quarterback DJ Lagway in the 2024 class, the Florida Gators hope to follow that blockbuster pickup by adding another solid QB this cycle. Based on our interviews with prospects and chats with multiple sources, it appears they have a good chance to do that.

Although things continue to be ultra-fluid, here’s what we know about the QBs on Florida’s radar:

*Antwann Hill, Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County
On3 Industry Rankings: No. 11 QB, No. 111 overall
Commitment status: Uncommitted
Most recent prior visit to Florida: 3/28/2024
Next scheduled visit to Florida: May 31
Scheduled official visits: Florida (May 31), Memphis (June 7)
On3 RPM favorite: Memphis (77.1%)
RPM No. 2: Florida (10.4%).
Darkhorse: Not known
411: Earlier this year, Florida appeared to be in a strong spot for Hill. But lately, the Gators seem to be recruiting others harder and meanwhile Memphis, which has its foot on the gas with Hill, has emerged as the team to beat. In the Tigers, Hill sees the chance to compete for a starting job in Year 1. Unless something drastic changes in the coming weeks, Memphis is poised to land him.

Can UF flip a ‘Noles commit?

*Tramell Jones, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin — FSU commit
On3 Industry Rankings: No. 33 QB, No. 432 overall
Commitment status: Committed to FSU (4/01/23)
Most recent prior visit to Florida: 4/15/2024
Next scheduled visit to Florida: TBD
Scheduled official visits: FSU (June 21).
On3 RPM favorite: FSU (95.2%)
RPM No. 2: Florida (4.2%)
Darkhorse: Florida
411: Jones continues to say he is solid to the Seminoles, but two April visits to Gainesville seem to suggest he’s listening to the Gators. In recent in-person interviews with Gators Online, he said it’s likely Florida will get an official visit in June. Should that happen, it probably would take place the weekend before his Seminoles official. The Gators are selling Jones hard on their QB development — and on the fact there won’t be much depth behind Lagway. He hasn’t yet shut the door on Florida and the Gators continue to push. Should Jones officially visit Florida, that certainly would be eye opening. He hopes to ultimately shut down his recruitment not long after his FSU official.

3 QBs on the Florida Gators’ radar are from out of state

*Keelon Russell, Duncanville (Texas)
On3 Industry Rankings: No. 8 QB, No. 77 overall
Commitment status: Committed to SMU (9/21/2023)
Most recent prior visit to Florida: 2/03/2024
Next scheduled visit to Florida: June 7
Scheduled official visits: Ole Miss (April 27), SMU (May 17), Alabama ( May 31) Florida (June 7), Oregon (TBD)
On3 RPM favorite: SMU (98.9%)
RPM No. 2: TCU (<1%)
Darkhorse: Alabama, Florida, Oregon, Texas
411: Russell officially visited SMU over the weekend and the Mustangs are fighting like crazy to keep him on board. Supposedly, that visit went well. Yet, as Billy Embody of The Pony Express wrote, “Russell plans to take official visits to ‘look at schools’ with an ‘open’ recruitment. Alabama, Florida and Oregon are set to host him for official visits this summer before he shuts down his recruitment before his senior season.” We believe Russell might be one of Florida’s top two quarterback targets, along with Jones. Texas is another program to watch with Russell. The Longhorns have a commitment from Saraland (Ala.) 4-star K.J. Lacey but could be in the market for a second QB in the class. If Texas offers, that adds yet another layer to this recruitment.

*Colton Gumino,  Elmhurst (Illi.) John Hersey
On3 Industry Rankings: Not rated yet
Commitment status: Uncommitted
Most recent prior visit to Florida: Has not yet visited.
Next scheduled visit to Florida: June 3
Scheduled official visits: TBD
On3 RPM favorite: Kansas (37.3%)
RPM No. 2: UCLA (32.6%)
Darkhorse: Florida (possibly)
411: UCLA offered Gumino last week and that got him on Florida’s radar. He told Gators Online on Sunday he will throw for the Florida staff when he visits in June. Should the Gators offer, it’s something he’d strongly consider. As for the Bruins, we expect them to get an official visit in June. Since Gumino’s stock has just recently started to rise, his recruitment continues to take shape and he appears to be fairly open.
