Tuesday recruiting intel with a focus on cornerbacks
Today we’ll take a look at cornerback recruiting with Terry Joseph set to see two big names, a couple of new recent offers, and one 2025 offer visiting campus for the first time recently.
Texas coach in Central Texas today
Texas coaches have been burning up the miles of late with coaches spanning from Hawaii to Florida but today Terry Joseph caught a break and will be in Central Texas to see priority cornerback targets Kobe Black and Selman Bridges.
Both Black and Bridges will take their official visits to Texas for the ‘big’ weekend of June 23-25.
Black has RPM predictions for Texas from Sam Spiegelman and Gerry Hamilton. I would agree with those predictions.
Bridges has a prediction for Texas from Spiegelman. I would agree with that one as well.
Despite Texas being in good shape at cornerback a couple big offers out West went out last week.
Dakoda Fields, CB, Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra and Santana Wilson, CB, Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain
The first thing that stands out about Fields is he’s at the same high school that produced Maalik Murphy. He’s already taken a lot of visits, and Texas offered late compared to everyone else, but Texas did make his Top 7 schools recently along with USC, Oregon, Washington, Ohio State, Miami, and Cal.
Living in Scottsdale and the son of Arizona Cardinals stud safety Adrian Wilson means life is pretty good for Wilson. He seems wide open at this point. His father played at NC State and is currently the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Carolina Panthers.
Given his dad ran 4.52 at 6-foot-3, 213 pounds, I have no issue believing his reported 4.46 40-yard time. It shows up on tape, too.
In addition to picking up Texas on Sunday, he picked up an OU offer today.
Both of these guys are too good to be considered contingencies, but it does seem like coaches are setting up options in case they want to flip someone or play the long game.
Speaking of which, Louisiana corner target Wardell Mack is now going to let his process play out longer. That could very well motivate the coaches to offer Fields and Wilson.
Cobey Sellers, CB, Alvin (Texas) Shadow Creek – 2025
Last Friday was the first visit to Texas for the rising 5-foot-11.5, 165-pound On3 four-star defensive back.
The former Fort Bend Christian state champ made the move to Shadow Creek in the off-season, and was eager to see more of the Texas football program. What stood out most to the Houston area product?
“Their team culture, coaching style, and hanging with coach Sark,” Sellers told Inside Texas. “It was the first time at the football facility. We had fun, and I liked getting to know the coaches.”
Terry Joseph and staff nailed this early evaluation with an offer last month. After connecting with Texas safety coach Blake Gideon earlier this year, he was finally able to talk ball with the UT cornerback coach.
“(We spoke about) defensive back strategies and coverages,” Sellers said.
Sellers has six early offers including Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas Tech. He’s looking at camps to UH and UTSA this summer, and potentially Austin on June 3rd for the Elite Camp.
It’s probably too early to talk about 2025 priorities, but Sellars is in the conversation.
