In depth with key Notre Dame safety target Davis Andrews
American Fork (Utah) High class of 2024 safety Davis Andrews had an important visit to Notre Dame for the Blue-Gold Game weekend in April. The Fighting Irish are a top school for the 6-2, 190-pounder, and it was first time both seeing campus and meeting the coaching staff.
Andrews got to campus that Friday, April 21, and had an experience that he’ll probably never forget. He got to play nine holes of golf with former Irish standout and current Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton.
“If you watch college football, then you know about Kyle Hamilton,” Andrews said. “He’s someone I’ve wanted to play like. When it got set up, I was thinking to myself, ‘There’s no way I’m actually going to play golf with Kyle Hamilton.’”
They played the front nine at the Warren Golf Course, and Andrews had a blast.
“I was asking him a lot of questions about the NFL, his experience at Notre Dame and why he went there,” recalled Andrews. “His main reason was when he was thinking about his future, it was an easy decision [to pick ND]. That’s what the coaches preach as well, so it was good to hear an ex-Notre Dame player say what the coaches are saying, too.
“It was a cool two hours of hanging out with him. It was a unique experience.”
Andrews enjoyed the spring game
After breakfast in the indoor facility, Andrews had his visit photoshoot, which included pictures with Notre Dame commits CJ Carr and Jack Larsen.
“That was really cool and good to connect with other recruits,” he said.
Mother Nature wasn’t kind to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game, but that didn’t stop Andrews from having a good time.
“It was awesome,” he noted. “Even a small sample of seeing the traditions of Notre Dame were awesome in person.”
In depth visit on Sunday
Notre Dame had dozens of recruits on campus Saturday but not nearly as many the following day, which allowed Andrews to spend much more quality time with the coaching staff. He hung out with safeties coach Chris O’Leary the whole morning and had an in-depth campus tour.
Getting a good feel of campus was important for Andrews going into the visit, and it did not disappoint.
“It had a similar home feel to where I live in Utah,” Andrews said. “That was nice to see. It wasn’t a huge campus. It’s somewhere you can actually live and not have distractions.”
One of the last items on the visit itinerary for Davis was a meeting with head coach Marcus Freeman.
“He sat down with me and my parents, and what we talked about the most was the family aspect of the team and the group unity,” noted Andrews.
What’s next for Andrews?
He plans to take five official visits, and he has three of them locked in. Andrews will be at UCLA May 26, Notre Dame June 6 and Utah June 9.
On April 28, Andrews announced a top-six schools list of Notre Dame, Utah, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and BYU.
He ranks as the nation’s No. 687 overall recruit and No. 74 safety according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 6 player from his home state of Utah.
