2025 Kentucky EDGE Javeon Campbell talks Larry Johnson, two spring trips to Ohio State
FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY – Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has been all over the country during the spring evaluation period and one of his first stops was Frankfort (Kent.) Western Hills On300 EDGE Jaevon Campbell.
Campbell has built a close bond with Johnson and as a result, it meant a lot to him to see Johnson at Western Hills’ first padded practice this spring.
“Oh, he’s a great guy. Down to earth guy. Talks about God and I really feel like I connect with him,” Campbell said to Lettermen Row about Larry Johnson. “It really meant a lot and shows that he’s interested in me. Just loved to see him down here.”
The 6-foot-5 and 260-pound Campbell visited Ohio State twice this spring and the culture that head coach Ryan Day has curated in Columbus is what kept him coming back.
“Really just I know Ohio State’s like a blueblood program and they’re just a really good program. Great coach, great kids. You can just tell by the atmosphere every day at practice, I could tell they really get after it.”
He enjoyed Columbus so much that he brought both his mother and father with him on his second visit to Ohio State which is notable as the Buckeyes are the only out-of-state school that got both his parents on campus this spring.
“They both love coach Johnson, they love the program and just the way he produces people and just how he coaches is incomparable.”
The next step for Campbell and Ohio State is to get back to Columbus for an official visit. He was scheduled to take his official visit to Ohio State the weekend of May 31-June 2 but he has decided to switch it to an in-season and he is excited to see the Buckeyes in action.
“I just want to see them play and just knock somebody’s head off and just see how they do as a team going against somebody.”
On3 ranks Campbell as the No. 135 overall prospect, the No. 12 defensive lineman and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky in the 2025 class.
