Which teammates have impressed a Gamecocks veteran?

Gamecocks longsnapper Hunter Rogers was voted by the SEC’s coaches as a first team all-conference selection after the 2023 season.

Now in his fifth year in Columbia, the Columbia native is one of the veterans on Shane Beamer’s roster.

He recently sat down with GamecockCentral.com during the Garnet Trust Hour on The Game and gave his thoughts on some teammates that stuck out to him during winter workouts and spring practice.

The first name he mentioned was a newcomer from the transfer portal.

“I like D-Knight,” Rogers said of Charlotte transfer linebacker Demetrius Knight. “D-Knight’s pretty good.”

The senior specialist likes what has seen out of the linebacker room in general, adding two impact transfers and two quality freshmen in addition to returners.

“I feel like from the defensive standpoint, the guys that we have at like linebacker and such, I mean, that’s the most loaded linebacker room probably in the SEC. And I feel like because of how we can possibly rotate those guys throughout the game, we can also use them on special teams. And those are the body types that you like for what we’re going to run.”

A fellow specialist, one in his first year in the program, also merited a mention from Rogers.

“Mason Love has actually surprised me so far. He’s 17 years old. And punting the ball like he does, I mean, he’s going to be good.”

Two others – one from the Gamecocks’ offense and one on defense – also earned a shoutout from Rogers.

“Dylan Stewart from the defensive side, he’s surprised me. Brady Hunt from a leadership role. He’s a key guy on punt, and that’s my favorite special teams,” Rogers said. “I like Brady a lot when it comes to special teams.”
