Miami Hurricanes continuing pursuit of 4-star CB Jamari Howard following Michigan State decommitment

Miami Hurricanes continuing pursuit of 4-star CB Jamari Howard following Michigan State decommitment

Since his decommitment from Michigan State, the Miami Hurricanes were among the handful of programs to reach out to Westland Hialeah (Fla.) four-star cornerback Jamari Howard.

Although Miami’s recruiting efforts did not wane after his pledge to the Spartans last September, you can expect the ‘Canes to ramp up their efforts now that the South Florida prospect is back on the market.

“I have spoken with a couple of coaches and coach (Benedick) Hyppolite,” Howard told CaneSport. “He told me he wants me to stay home and be close to my family.”

Miami offensive analyst Benedick Hyppolite has been in constant communication with Howard and has led the recruiting efforts for the Hurricanes thus far.

While Hyppolite’s role in Howard’s recruitment is important, the 6-foot-1.5, 170-pounder says watching the Hurricanes’ efforts to restore the program has also piqued his interest.

“They’re bringing in a lot of people to help them win and be like the old Miami they used to be,” Howard said.

According to Howard, who has a NIL Valuation of $125,000, his family will play a big role in his final decision, among other components.

“I really just have to see what my family is talking about, discuss it, and see what’s best for me,” Howard said. “That’s what I’ve really been discussing with my family since decommitting. I’m just looking to see which school fits best for me.”

Since the start of the new year, the No. 44 player in the 2024 On300 has visited Miami twice, once alone and once with his family, who loved their stay in Coral Gables.

“They like it, and it’s down the street from me and not too far from home,” he added.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Alabama is currently tabbed as the favorite to land Howard, leading all schools with a 39.8 probability.

Following his decommitment from Michigan State, Howard has also expressed interest in Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Rutgers, as well as Miami, although there are no favorites at this time.

“I’m looking for a nice spot on the field,” Howard said. “A school that’s going to help me produce and get me to the league.”

CaneSport’s take

The South Florida native has been on the Hurricanes’ radar for quite some time, and with Howard re-opening his recruitment, expect Miami to be actively involved. Howard has only scheduled official visits with Florida and Michigan State thus far, so getting him back on campus should be one of the Hurricanes’ top concerns moving ahead.
