Recruiting Notebook: Detailed evaluation for 2025 CB Aidan Anding
Inside Texas takes a closer look at the fit and evaluation for Ruston (La.) CB and Texas target Aidan Anding in this edition of the recruiting notebook.
How he fits at Texas:
Aidan Anding is a press-quarters cornerback from Louisiana with good athletic measurables (best track time is 10.98 100m as a junior in high school) and length at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. Despite his smaller stature he’s a willing and physical tackler when it comes up and appears likely to grow into a very physical, all-around player. He doesn’t have a lot of film executing zone coverage but he’s great in man coverage, demonstrates great ball skills, and uses his eyes well which is the key to good pattern-matching coverage. He could probably play either cornerback position and maybe nickel with time but boundary cornerback will make the most sense if his frame can fill out enough to allow him to be physical with big college receivers. – Ian Boyd
Coach Says:
Strengths — Good size with a frame that will easily fill out. Shows good toughness and instinct for man coverage. Film is almost all man coverage with press, rolled-up, and off coverage. Has the hips and top end speed to run with most receivers and his track/basketball background is also evident in lower body explosiveness and change of direction skills. Man coverage turns are smooth. Eye discipline is quite good for a player this age. Could likely play field, boundary or nickel and his ceiling is probably more interesting than his floor. Seems to have a decent feel for the route concepts being run and finds work when he’s free. Willing in run support and not afraid to mix it up. Good hands and a natural catch motion.
Areas for improvement — Several examples of him in press coverage where he doesn’t get a hand on the receiver. Not sure how he’ll play in space/zone. Would like to see more film against high level competition. Needs to fight off the stack a little bit better but I am nitpicking.
How this affects Texas:
Texas went big at cornerback in the class of 2024. The Horns need at least 2-3 for the next cycle and have their eyes on the underrated three-star from Da Boot. Texas CB coach Terry Joseph identified Anding early. Anding was most recently on campus for an unofficial in April, and will return for an official trip in June. With top corner target Cobey Sellers committed to Texas A&M, Texas is eyeing Anding for a spot in the 2025 class. – Justin Wells
